Will America elect a criminal as President? on 11:04 - May 31 by PhilTWTD | I don't see a landslide in either direction however it pans out, and those groups may show scepticism towards Biden now but could well end up behind him as the prospect of Trump becomes ever more real nearer to November. |
Best thing the Democrats could do is give Trump a pardon. Completely takes the wind out of his sails. The ultimate political strategy, convict then pardon. What's he gonna moan about?

Biden can't pardon him because this is a state conviction, not a federal one.

And presumably Biden could suggest it. It also leaves him a convicted felon, albeit a pardoned convicted felon which fingers crossed resonates with independent voters who will decide who wins in November.

Will America elect a criminal as President? on 08:33 - May 31 by DanTheMan | If he gets in and they start doing Project 2025, I dread to think about the chaos it will cause. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025 It looks like they want a Theocratic dictatorship. |
I wasn't familiar with all of Project 2025. That's some terrifying reading. If something like that passes, that's when I have to start looking at other options. I have my American citizenship, but my Suffolk accent hasn't gone away. It never will. It's only a matter of time before the right turns on all immigrants. The constitution that the far rights screams about defending so much would be torn to pieces in a theocracy. We'd become a dictatorship under the boot of the entire Trump family. The French had the right idea on how to treat rogue governments....

Will America elect a criminal as President? on 00:35 - May 31 by FromIpswichToPhoenix | I live in Arizona. This won't sway the hard right. Hell, this plays right into his hands. He has half the country conned that for whatever reason, they think he is our saviour. If he wins, we're effed and our democracy will be over. This will be a revenge tour and nothing more. He called democrats Human Scum yesterday. I think that says all you need to hear. Seriously thinking about my options. The religious right has gone insane over here. My daughter has come out as gay and I don't know how safe she will be as more of the hardcore Christians take over. This isn't the America I moved to in the 90's. |
That's a really hard read. Wishing you and your daughter all the best. Is Flagstaff an option for you?

Despite the polls being close, even Republicans evidently aren't all sold on him, Nikki Haley has still been getting decent percentages in primaries even though she pulled out of the race a while back. |

And this is the threat. It’s a semi-coordinated cabal with the likes of groups such as Turning Point propagating their warped ideology and back slapping every fascist-like leader around the planet. They can all try to prop each other up when it goes tatts up. Which is exactly why it’s worth the likes of Farage jumping on a plane rather than standing to represent the people of his own town/country. From what we’ve seen so far, the opposition struggle to up their game to fight on the same international playing field (unless I’m just unaware of counter movements).

How have the Democrats done anything? He committed a number of crimes and was charged by the state level judiciary. This is the kind of narrative the Trump supporters push to explain away the fact that he's a criminal. SB

I don't give a hoot either way but do take an interest in World politics. To deny this is not politically motivated is naiive and will be overturned by the supreme court 100%. The judge refused the defense the Bill of Particulars for a reason.

Sounding like a proper Trumpian. Doing illegal things and getting charged for them doesn't mean it's politically motivated. We now know he was guilty of illegal acts and thus was correctly charged. You mean overturned by the Supreme Court that Trump stacked in his favour just in case something like this happened? If you're looking for a politically motivated event then perhaps looking at the Supreme Court appointments might be an idea. SB [Post edited 1 Jun 2024 13:28]

It would be very, very weird if this went to the Supreme Court. If they took up the case and overturned it, the precedent would end up being the opposite of Roe Vs. Wade on state vs. federal rights, as far as I understand it.

It certainly won't be Pence again. Even he turned his back on Trump in the end and refused to endorse his stolen election rubbish. Pence went up hugely in my estimation when he did that.

I'm no apologist for Trump but I agree that pursuing Trump appears counter-productive. Throw in Gaza, and with the election hanging on about 6 swing states, all it will take is for a small fraction of the Democrat vote to be affected in somewhere like Georgia to make all the difference. As it it, there is something rather corrupt about a legal system that has politically appointed prosecutors, DAs and judges, whichever side they are on.

I'm not sure I do believe it's politically motivated. It's a simple narrative to perpetuate in an election year, but it could just as easily have gone to court last year. Guilty on all 34 counts would still be guilty on all 34 counts regardless of when the case was tried. Do you think it's a rigged trial?

Kennedy is hurting the Democrat vote. Also Trump is gaining a huge swing in the black vote enought to win back all the swing states.
