Coffee junkies 10:21 - Jun 6 with 2274 views | unbelievablue | Got a love hate relationship with coffee as I've had palpable physical anxiety over the years, but still love the stuff, especially cold brew in summer. Anyway, got a spending app recently and noticed I was spending a bomb on the stuff when I went into the office (3x a week roughly), and on the weekend too when I'm out and about. So thought I'd make my own cold brew (lol). Bought a Hario jug/filter thing and started last night - was skeptical, but wow, tastes great! So looking for tips for making your own cold brew (how long to brew it, to dilute or not to dilute, bean recs etc.)...? Cheers in advance.

In the morning two cups of the stuff two sugars and Organic milk. It tastes great. After that i stay away from the stuff all day. It will drive you mad and take up far too much of your time and brain space...maybe start even posting about coffee on a message board...see i'm doing it and it's three hours since my two cups of the day. Good luck

(Just joking) I've not tried doing a cold brew, but am also very much a coffee junky at home with a snazzy sage coffee machine, and occasionally out too. I get our beans from Coffee Link, an Ipswich company, and they are really good quality and reasonably priced.

We just hopped on the cold brew bandwagon. It takes a LOT of grounds but the good thing is you can use anything and it'll taste good. My wife is starting to get a little annoyed at the every growing array of different coffee-making toys I have... Finding good quality decaff is a pain for me at the moment. My sister told me that Big Italian Coffee Co. who she works for are bringing out a proper decaff soon. I tried some of their premium stuff that costs a boat load and you can really taste the difference there.

Nice cheers. Think I'm going to stick to the more independent, less tax dodging places when I go out now.

I use the filters directly on my mug at work now and just pour by eye. There are reams of posts on reddit and forums suggesting how many grams/water, temperature, wind direction etc I think it's a decent guide but trial and error is better. Coffee snobs are whine snobs in different clothing it seems.

I'm on the same path as both the OP (have been on various Califia Farms Cold Brews for a while, but it's not just the expense or amount of caffeine, it's the environmental aspects that bother me, esp the plastic bottles) and yourself, but don't have time to faff about with beans, grinding etc. (Apols for the heresy!). I've tried numerous instant decaffs to make my own with - the key is to make it *really* strong, & sweeter than you would normally. The only two that come close to tasting as good as real coffee are 1. Nescafe Azera (with orange lid), an Americano which gives you a bit of frothy top as well; 2. Nescafe original decaff (with blue lid). For caffeinated, Nescafe Alta Rica.

Yeah noticed it takes loads of grounds. Thankfully got loads of Lavazza beans from my trip to Italy to work through.

Banging the coffee link drum again, they do 2 or 3 good decaff options.

I've been getting mine from 200 degrees which is a local roaster in Notts but might give these guys a go as they do have a few options.

Coffee junkies on 08:16 - Jun 7 with 1496 views | WeWereZombies | So this cold brew - do you put it in the microwave to warm it up ? All I want is a hot drink, either at home or when I am out and about - so I am getting slightly worried about not drinking enough water. But as far as coffee goes, I alternate between instant coffee one day and 'proper' coffee the next, currently rocking Lidl's Bellarom premium instant (the stuff in a big jar, not the imitation 'proper' coffee stuff in a tin) it's OK and makes me appreciate a good coffee when I drink one. My big recent discovery for 'drinking out' is Morrisons Café, who are now doing free refills. So my £2.25 capuccino (for which I get 200 More points when I buy as a cafe customer, which is worth twenty pence) works out as £1.025 when I go and fill up with a mocha or latté (have yet to be challenged with not refilling with the same drink.) I have ordered a flat white off the screen at the entrance but been unable to find one on the machine display, but at least you are drinking out of a glazed earthenware mug and not a plasticsed paper cup. But, to return to the OP, when there is no Morrisons Café available then the optimum solution is carry a vacuum flask (make the contents with instant or filter, whatever you have on the go) and find a hillside with a stream rapidly running by to sit alongside. It's not about the type of coffee, it's about the view.

A ride on and a coffee machine Dubbers, my goodness. Miss Slave says, "is it a Bambino?".....I think she's slipping to the dark side too. Edit....do you ever drink and drive? [Post edited 7 Jun 2024 8:47]

I bought this thing: https://www.hario.co.uk/collections/coffee-brew-cold-brew/products/hario-mizudas Best to experiment to your own tastes etc. but roughly: - Fill the filter 3/4 with ground - Slowly pour water (cold/room temp) through the coffee, gently stir, until the jug is full - Fridge for 8-24 hours (again, experiment) - Remove filter/grounds (good compost!), put jug back in fridge, good to go! Can either dilute further with water to have it less strong or go for it full whack. Great over ice. Can add milk but I don't usually.

Or you can go to Morrisons Café, I'm sure they would put a latté in the fridge at the back if you asked them nicely...

Yep. The best in the business for my money. Square Mile Coffee, Rave Coffee, are also good.

You'll only give yourself more washing up to do if you add the milk last, need to use a spoon then.
