People often say on here that the forum is dominated by lefties (or pinkos as they were once disparagingly known).
This begs the question, what constitutes a lefty?
For my own part, I believe a true lefty in this country is someone who has never voted Tory or Liberal Democrat (or any of its former incarnations). And in every election since 1979, I have voted Labour, apart from in two local elections where there was no Labour candidate and I voted firstly for the Ecology Party and secondly for the Greens, both of which I would regard as left-leaning parties..
My hunch is that there is only a handful on TWTD like me, and it would be interesting to know who falls into the category, or if anyone else has their own definition of a lefty.
In all this, I am ignoring the fact that some people (myself included) might not regard the current Labour Party as truly left wing.

Hard to know init. Would have been full Class War, eat the rich when younger. Though i've obviously mellowed through time.

i wouldn't qualify as i used to be in a lib dem/tory marginal, voting labour or not voting was pointless and just enabled the tories.
i guess i'm a pragmatic lefty, as green is closest to my overall views (i always voted for them in europe), however in a safe labour seat, i'd often vote socialist to indicate my desired direction of travel... i'll definitely be voting labour this time as i'm now in a tory/labour marginal

What is it you like about Farage? The racism? The dishonesty? The lack of detail or clarity when it comes to actual policies? Genuinely curious why anyone would be happy to have that charlatan back in mainstream politics, let alone why they'd want him to be PM. I can't think of anyone less fit for the role, he isn't a serious individual, he said one of his own policies was unworkable the other day and blamed it on being 'new' when he's been involved with Reform from day 1. I think someone who just walks into a voting booth and votes Labour, seemingly without concern, whether they are led by Tony Blair or Jeremy Corbyn is more a supporter of a political party rather than a holder of a particular political viewpoint.
The same goes too for conservative voters, where their party has veered hugely on fiscal and foreign/trade policies [Post edited 10 Jun 2024 12:15]

I may have ruled myself out as a true lefty for voting LD in 2010.
South Cambs is a tory stronghold. The LD were the only true opposition. Even then they lost by a 7000 majority.
I went back to Labour in 2019. They came the expected poor 3rd. The LD edged closer with a 3000 vote loss.
I'm torn this year. Hold my nose and maybe oust the tory or back Labour into 3rd again? [Post edited 10 Jun 2024 12:25]

Some of my views are quite left and some quite right, I think you have to be a bit of a berk to lean one way just because it suits what you are supposed to say on the tin.
I'm definitely not a true lefty though and never could be.
