It wouldn't surprise me at all. I think he had bigger fish to fry in January but he didn't have a great end to the season so wonder if interest from the likes of Lazio and more established PL clubs has cooled. Expect Rooney will want to sign a few and Plymouth will have to fund that via a player sale.

What is his opinion of us? I'd say he probably thinks he made a big mistake not signing here if indeed that was an option.

I mean, I could well be wrong, but would you honestly see him turning down life changing money? All because we maybe didn’t put our best foot forward the first time round we tried signing him? Plus, his agent will command a Prem fee, rather than a League 1 fee to get the deal over the line. |  |

He was a very selfish attacking player, basically playing with the defensive responsibility of a striker. In the modern game as we've proved, not being the striker doesn't make his stats more impressive when he was their main attacking focus. Which he definitely wouldn't be here and his defensive game doesn't stack up for what we will need. |

Omari and JS would have been the same when they arrived.
Its upto KM to judge whether he could fit our model.
I think he would be a great signing.

When we played down their place, I got talking to a few of the Pilgrims. They reckon he could play at a higher level, just not in our system. They said he can go missing when things are against them. They questioned his work rate when things get tough.
Good player that I like, but his work rate may be an issue for McKenna. |  |

He got recalled by Swansea - probably due to offers from us (and others too). I’m guessing he was happy at Plymouth (as he is now?) and looking at their turnover also on a decent contract in the end so found the recall an annoying distraction at the time for no real financial gain. | |

I mean you can't counter with complete rubbish re: Hutchinson and Sarmiento. Both were known for their pressing ability hence the fit within our team. We've seen enough of Whittaker over the years to know what he's about and I'd be pretty confident his pressing game doesn't stack up. | | | |

He's done it consistently in the Championship for two seasons now. Not sure why Burnley explored other options last summer but he's got quality and would be a smart buy.
He's also an upgrade on Broadhead who himself will probably lack that athleticism in the Premier League but with his chance to show he can handle it, I'm here to be proven wrong as he's a gifted player technically. |

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...I have watched Whittaker a lot through the years as he played in the same Lincolnshire youth team as my lad for a season so we’ve followed his progress. He was obviously a very talented player even then and was on Derby’s books. Being talented, he swanned about and didn’t work hard because he didn’t need to really. He was told to stay up front and get goals. I’ve not seen that mentality change much over the years if I’m honest so I’m with those who say no to him. If he was good enough to be developed into a Prem player wouldn’t he have been picked up by someone before now? |  | | |

Got some serious quality as a player, his goal record and assist record shows that and I thought at Portman Road earlier this season he was superb on and off the ball.
But at their place he looked disinterested, and the game passed him by.
Physically and athletically he has the attributes, technically he is good enough - just concerns over the mentality in terms of both decision making on the ball and in being a team player off the ball.
I certainly think he has it in him to be a PL player, but it's always a risk when someone hasn't shown what you need them to at one club to expect him to be able to do it at the next club. |

He brings attacking/midfielder winger type attributes, with a great goal threat, but also can build attacking play and provide service. He’d be great competition for Burns. And whilst you pay a significant fee, there’s upside in his value.
But also agree something may be lacking in his attitude and hence consistency. He had a really mediocre second half of the season, really out of form. And that may have cooled our interest - we need immediate form for this Premiership campaign.
Of course his drop in form may relate to the managerial switcheroo at Plymouth.
I doubt Rooney would have come in without some commitments on squad quality though. With Whittaker someone he’ll want to work with. |  |
