Reported 200k Scotland fans descending on Munich for the opener tommorow. That's ridiculous numbers given they are not realistically going to win the Euros.

Poll: This new lockdown poll - what you reckon?

And of course, several Glaswegians still living on the streets of Kings Cross today because they couldn't afford to get home.

There was, and maybe still is, a story that after Celtic's European cup victory in 1967, hundreds of fans who travelled with only enough money to get there decided they might as well stay in Lisbon/ Portugal and never returned back to Scotland.
I think the story gained legs because there is a big Scottish community in Portugal and probably people put 2&2 together and came up with 5

Nope. I came to that conclusion when they came down at PR for a friendly. And a couple of seasons later when I unfortunately went to Ibox.

100,000 in Seville for the UEFA final the other year, no arrests. Ibrox is a fantastic ground to visit, as is Celtic Park

In fairness, when the Jocks get to these tournaments and go on the lash there is rarely any trouble which i in stark cointra to English "fans". saw first hand what utter scum can follow our national team in Stuttgart in 2006.

Could you see any English fans doing this in Germany?

Always get the impression the media are all set up to applaud the Scots as jovial, merry, friendly tourists who are beloved by the locals.... and the scots are happy to play up to it. Just find it annoying b0llocks.

What was the game where the Scottish fans destroyed the goals after an international match at Wembley?

"Destroyed" is perhaps a rather pejorative way to describe it. What happened was that lots hung from the goals in celebration and they collapsed under the weight.

Exactly, when it comes to International Football and being good tourists, they are up there with best. Self policed, there to have a good time and not cause any issues. They may hate England but it's not a vicious hate, it's just a laugh.

England fans who travel - get sozzled, rude to the locals, have a few lines, launch a few cafe chairs around and then poop themselves when someone bigger comes along and act like general nobs. Take everything super seriously - you just have to watch that Netflix documentary to see that.

I think the issue is that, whilst the vast majority these days are not like that, England has had, and still has to an extent, an element of its support which is of the racist "football lads" type and who don't really like foreigners.

But it it infinitely better than the 1980s because attending (not as a fan) England games at Wembley then was rather like attending a National Front rally.

My understanding is that Rangers have a similar element of their support (what with the Union Jacks etc), but fortunately such people don't follow the Scottish national team.

Have you heard the bagpipes?! Taking them to foreign countries is basically state-sanctioned terrorism.

Quite a broad sweep that. 100,000+ Rangers fans in Manchester for that final and a few idiots have led you to think they should all be kept in cages.

It's the same logic used to bash England fans.

The best fans are the Japanese. They leave places cleaner than when they got there.

I would regard myself as Scottish, even though not born there, and I don't have an issue with the term Jock. Indeed, I even like the rhyming term sweaty as in sweaty sock = Jock

It never seemed to bother Jock Stein.

I think it was because it was a common Scottish name that it was adopted to describe Scots, apparently originating in the military.

It's like Paddy and Taffy, but it is interesting to note there is no equivalent expression to describe the English.

According to the BBC, this has gone viral on Tik Tok.

It's quite tongue in cheek, and rather good.

My understanding is that their purpose was to rally the troops and scare the enemy.

My grandfather played the pipes, and when he moved to the Isle of Wight later in life, his family banished him to the woods for practice.

And the Yanks used to call us Limeys, but like Tommys I think that was a blanket term for all Brits - not just the Sassans but the Jocks, Taffs and Paddys too.

That's certainly true, and we called them Jerrys, and this indicates the term goes back further than that.

But Tommy applied to British soldiers, not just English soldiers.

The irony being the picture is 4 Scottish fans making a token effort at clearing up a fraction of the mess caused by 1000s of their compatriots who treated the streets as a dumping ground in the first case

Not sure this is demonstration of fan behavior superiority that you think it is.

The goalposts were unusable after that game, so to that extent, surely they were destroyed?

They are and will probably drink Munich dry. At least they’ll have fun without smashing the place up which is of course too many England ‘supporters’ usual idea of fun.

As for winning it? No chance. France or Portugal?

For the Jocks the prize is getting to the KO stage, this is their 12th major tournament and they've not managed it yet.

They also know how to party properly unlike the Engerlund mob.

But the way it was reported at the time that it was deliberate hooliganism, and that narrative has tended to stick, and for my part words like "destroyed" or "wrecked" which I've heard play into this narrative.
