Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 11:51 - Jun 19 with 6379 views | portmanking | Jesus wept. That feels like our final offer you'd think. Other reports had said Panathinaikos were looking for €25m and Sporting had backed away from negotiations! Maybe Panathinaikos feel a bidding war is commencing? I reckon Town might just leave that latest offer on the table.

You'd think with an offer like that you're getting close to the asking price, especially if your previous bid was 22m euros. As you say, might be one we let play out for a little bit now, or stump up what they're after to get the deal done before some bigger clubs than us.

Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:01 - Jun 19 with 6172 views | burnbudgiesburn | That's £21.1m I doubt we go any higher than that. We might even be being used by Panathinaikos at this point.
Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:12 - Jun 19 with 5991 views | LankHenners | Suggests we're keen to get this done quickly and must have some indication that the player would be interested in joining. Could also be that if personal terms are agreed with Bologna, Panathinaikos are trying to use our interest to make them pay up. Have to say I feel in my bones this is what we need - some big foreign lad no-one's heard of from a relatively minor league/nation to lead the line. Hopefully he's a nutcase as well.

Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:14 - Jun 19 with 5939 views | HighgateBlue | Who knows what the true details are? Even if the total value of the bid was 25m Euros, and even if it was rejected, that doesn't mean that a different bid whose total value is 25m Euros would fail. It has been claimed before that our previous bid was too reliant on add-ons. It may very well be that whoever gets him will get him for 25m Euros, with more of the total amount being payable immediately, and more (or all) of the final amount being payable without conditions to be satisfied (such as number of goals, European qualification, etc). We need to trust that the club management know what they're upto. The fact that they appear to be fishing in this pool at all I think is a good sign. And the (apparent) fact that we have put in a second bid is likely to mean that we have not been told that our club is of no interest to the player on any terms. Which in itself is good.
Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:16 - Jun 19 with 5884 views | burnbudgiesburn | Got to say I didn't see us spending that amount of wedge on 1 player on the overseas market. It's where I thought we'd be shopping for bargains.
Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:18 - Jun 19 with 5863 views | portmanking | A separate Greek article is saying the €25m bid is likely to be accepted by the Panathinaikos owner and that Ioannidis is serious on playing in the PL!

From his highlights he does look like a really good fit for what we want from a 9 and technically better than Hirst in some respects. There's a big premium on no 9s at the minute.

Bring back the summer of us announcing David Cornell, Stephen Ward and Oli Hawkins altogether. Those were the real days.

Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:23 - Jun 19 with 5742 views | ipswichtillidie | Interesting to note that in Phil’s story it would be a transfer record in Greece. If the story has some merit, which it appears to have, that’s some statement on a centre forward. Non the less exciting being linked with some of the players we have been over that last few days. Greaves, Rodon, etc. [Post edited 19 Jun 2024 12:24]

Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:29 - Jun 19 with 5618 views | mutters | Whilst i have complete faith in the management team, and they clearly know a lot more than me, I am not sure about this one. He did score a lot last season however 9 of those goals were from the penalty spot.

If you have complete faith in management, your concerns shouldn't really be there. We tend to sign players who McKenna can work with and improve, but ones with the raw ingredients (young, athletic, pace) to do that. Given the linked clubs (if true) your concerns should be eased I'd have thought. [Post edited 19 Jun 2024 12:43]

You'd imagine that Ashton and McKenna wouldn't make decisions like this solely based on goals scored in the previous season. Pretty irrelevant how many penalties he scored.

In which case I don't have complete faith in the club management then. 😂😂 Maybe 95% then, as everybody makes mistakes

That he scores penalities is a bonus IMO. Not sure if we have an 8 or 9 times out of 10 penalities scorer in the squad, ATM.
Fotis Ioannidis - another offer rejected on 12:51 - Jun 19 with 5224 views | topguy | i think we could offer 27-28m euros and go back with a final offer to test thier resolve laster this week, they know he might never be at this value again, so sometimes better to strike while the irons hot, and i dont see bolonga making an offer cause if they dont sell thier main dutch striker when will he player a lot of moving prts to this but better to get it dont, love to know if we will be offering a shade more with a final offer.

No I agree, Hirst isn't a natural poacher and he does a very good role for us. From what I've read, he does seem like a good player but there are some concerns about him. Until this season his scoring record was pretty bland at a lower level than what he could be stepping into. However we know that McKennq can spot something beyond our simple comprehension, so in him I trust. I still need to get my head around paying £20+ million for a player is the going rate these days

Exactly - and the chances are he’s getting in the position to win the penalties too, which is a very good way of unlocking a stubborn defence

And we might actually get awarded some now with VAR.

Exactly, I don't understand why people discard scoring statistics of a player takes penalties, it's an odd stance. They're are still goals with some considerable skill required to convert. VAR Will mean it's likely we'll get more penalties than the last couple of seasons, and we'll need someone to score those for us. Chappers was our penalty taker for the most part of the last 2 seasons but wasn't the most convincing of takers. Chances will be more of a premium this season and we need someone that can be relied on to make the most of any penalties we're awarded.
