Exactly, I don't understand why people discard scoring statistics of a player takes penalties, it's an odd stance. They're are still goals with some considerable skill required to convert.

VAR Will mean it's likely we'll get more penalties than the last couple of seasons, and we'll need someone to score those for us. Chappers was our penalty taker for the most part of the last 2 seasons but wasn't the most convincing of takers. Chances will be more of a premium this season and we need someone that can be relied on to make the most of any penalties we're awarded.

In no way was I discarding it, however there is a massive difference between somebody scoring 23 goals in open play versus 23 goals of which 9 were penalties.

Penalty taking is an art form, to have a very good one (though I don't know his conversation rate) in the squad would be a great addition.

You sound like you're pretty confident we'll get him over the line, Joe?

I've got no idea other than what I'm reading, just looks like we are pushing hard presumably before Bologna get a load of money (Zirkzee to Man U) or Sporting do (Gyokeres to someone) to steal a march on the market - similar to our move for Al-Hamadi in January

The old, penalties don't count argument.

We should see a lot more penalties with VAR so having a top penalty taker will be key.

Not my preference of approach to be spending like this, gut says it feels like rash business.

When Brereton-Diaz is on the market for around £5m it just seems nonsensical to me.

To be fair the club haven't got much wrong regarding to Transfers, they have more than enough credit in the bank with us fans to give them the benefit of doubt.

If they think this guy is the real deal and we can get him for £25m then I'd trust their judgment.

Expect they probably think Ioannidis has a far higher ceiling than Brereton-Diaz and is the kind of profile you could make serious money on. Gyokeres was £24m last summer and being touted for £85m this summer.

Also, I wouldn't say either/or with these two.

There's an element of risk, but those are the waters we're in now. No longer are we looking in the bargain bin. Good players cost money. Good players with huge potential cost more.

Interesting to note that in Phil’s story it would be a transfer record in Greece. If the story has some merit, which it appears to have, that’s some statement on a centre forward. Non the less exciting being linked with some of the players we have been over that last few days. Greaves, Rodon, etc.

Agreed on the excitement factor.

To some extent I was aware that we would probably be looking to make 6-10 signings, and I had a spend of £80m in my mind even before McKenna's new contract but i'm more excited than I expected to be to see Phil's storis than I thought I would be vs when it was just a theoretical exercise in my mind.

No to be fair the recruitment has % wise been very good, and some really shrewd business has been done.

Having said that, he does look a really good striker who fits our profile for the line striking role.

Just feels like £25m is a lot of money, and where does it leave us financially if we were relegated.

Whilst i have complete faith in the management team, and they clearly know a lot more than me, I am not sure about this one. He did score a lot last season however 9 of those goals were from the penalty spot.

Maybe, but if you watch his energy, power, strength, movement, touch you can see why we're after him. The highlights didn't show much pressing out from CB to FB, but I'd guess he's got enough stamina for that, maybe not so much as Hirst.

We're definitely not looking at signings and thinking 'what if we're relegated'.

For the market we're now in, £25m for a player of his quality isn't a lot of money, of course there's an element of risk as with any player, it's his wages that'll have to be in line...

No, nobody does.

But as a football club & business model you have to prepare for all eventualities for seasons in advance, not one season at a time, it’s the only way you can be sustainable and successful.

You have to be extremely careful financially in the Premier League you don’t spend beyond your sustainability, and start buying from unknowns from far and wide, seen it done far too many times before.

I don’t like it, I never will.

That isn’t the case with us yet, this is one link, but I know what I would like to see if the transfer window and what business we do, that’s all.
