Thanks as ever, BlueBoots, for keeping this thread up to date. It answers my first question, which is whether we have a squad space for Ben Godfrey. The answer is no, which makes me think Harry Clarke will be on his way.
Philogene’s imminent arrival will, I guess, be offset by deregistering Ogbene. And Al-Hamidi will be moved on once we get another striker in. With Doak only being 19, I think I’m right in saying he’ll qualify as U21 so won’t take up squad space.
The bigger question is how to keep everyone happy. And who will we look to move on this month.
If we keep to three at the back, the two ‘line ups’ could look like this:
1: Walton, Godfrey, O’Shea, Greaves, Johnson, Morsy, Cajuste, Davis, Philogene, Doak, Delap
2: Muric, Tuanzebe, Woolfenden, Burgess, Burns, Phillips, Taylor, Townsend, Hutchinson, Szmodics, Hirst
New striker also playing a part.
That would leave Broadhead, Jack Clarke and Chaplin out of the XIs, though more likely to make the bench over any of the centre backs.
If we revert to a back four, however…
1: Walton, Godfrey, Davis, O’Shea, Greaves, Morsy, Cajuste, Doak, Szmodics, Philogene, Delap
2: Muric, Johnson, Townsend, Tuanzebe, Burgess, Phillips, Taylor, Hutchinson, Chaplin, Broadhead, Hirst
New striker also playing a part.
This would leave Woolfenden, Burns and Jack Clarke (again) out of the XIs, though Burns would get chances from the bench. Woolfenden less so.

Re: squad spaces...bit of a risk, but there's the option of sending Slicker out on loan and either bringing in (or promoting) an U21 keeper which would free up another space in the squad (he was linked with a loan move in the summer) Think you're right about Ogbene; common knowledge that Al-Hamidi would have got a loan move in the summer too if we'd managed to sign either Broja or Latte Lath, so may happen this window instead (the loan...who we might / can sign as No.9 has obviously changed - your comment about Doak would also hold true for Evan Ferguson (for example)) | |
