Honestly the collective arse kissing and back slapping going on is ridiculous!

Yes it's nice to have a refreshing change and new energy in government. Even this right wing nut is prepared to give them a chance. But still...

Apart from running a country and getting into wars on false pretenses. Actually to be fair he was good at getting those things that he wanted, even though it wasn't good for the country.

Sunak would definitely have gone because he's a politician just like Kier Starmer, and they love to bathe in other people's success. At least Starmer was actually elected, but even then Starmer was very much the beneficiary of anti-Tory sentiment.
It would be lovely if Starmer could sort out our country, but it just feels like we've gone from Paul Hurst to Paul Lambert. Maybe we should try someone not called Paul.

I hear there are some good McKennas about.

I tried to say his Christian name but the b..... Thing kept changing it to Neurons.

Our Prime Ministers have always been huge football fans. Cameron always took time out to watch his beloved West Villa.

I'm pretty sure he was an Aston Ham fan?

Maybe I am getting confused?

Edit: already done. Always read the whole thread...

I’m prepared for the disappointment.

The tories have set me up for that the past 14 years.

Do you think your general mood is affected more by the current government or the people in charge of your football club?
I honestly think that fixating on national or international events, instead of thinking local, is making us miserable.
I'm always in favour of government that leaves as much power locally as possible.

Wars, granted. And for that alone he should have faced some comeback.

Blair and then Brown, some gaffs aside like selling of our reserves on the cheap, did lead the country to a FAR better place than the people who followed them though. In all sorts of areas from real wage purchasing power, through to most of our public services, the Tories oversaw over a decade of decline. Average wages before the 2008 financial crash used to grow in one year (2.2%) almost what they've grew in the whole of the 14 years the Tories were in power (2.5%), for example. Wages in some of the service sectors are well below what they were in 2010 in real terms. NHS metrics around targets have all but collapsed from a place where we were regarded as having one of the better health systems in the world, schools struggling with teachers and parents having to bail them out, increases in child poverty, foodbank growth, a big rise in zero hours contracts and insecure work, they've hamstrung our R&D base, they've hamstrung our Higher Education sector, etc., etc., etc.

All the Tories had was the massive distraction of brexit (that's made us poorer individually and probably collectively, less well connected and less competitive in our major sectors like ag and fish, education and research, and SME exporters, noisey arguments over immigration (whilst massively missing their targets and wasting hundreds of millions through incompetence) and performative distractions on social media over divisive arguments around gender, climate activists (whilst reducing all our democratic right to protest), statues, and other bollox.

PS and I don't even like the bloke, but it's easy enough to admit they got a lot more right than they did wrong.

To reply to that I'd have to start a new thread and find a lot of free time. Then after writing a well considered response the only value to others would be that they enjoy their habit of sniping and piling on. Often, I think the shortcut is to get my work done and then spend time with my family, and if I have free time chat about football.

When I wrote that post I was going to add another paragraph stating that I meant personal ‘gifts’ like football or etc. But I thought that it was pretty obvious what I was alluding to - obviously not.

I remember cars having left hand threads on the wheelnuts on one side. I even had the use of one whilst living in Spain in the 70s. It was a Gogomobile.
