On my laptop I joined the queue at 9:30. I had about 430 people ahead of me.
Just before 10am I thought I'd try with my mobile too. It almost went straight in after the bar slid all the way to the right. It took another 7 minutes for the laptop to get entry.

I think it s irrelevant what time you join between 930 and 10. At 10 it then just randomly allocates you a place in the queue |  | | |

Any time between 9.30 and 9.59 should give a random place in the queue. After 10am you join the back of it.
Using two devices gives you two chances to join the queue. There is an advantage to having multiple devices. I would suggest it would be fairer if you had to log in first and the position in the queue was allocated to the customer number but that might be too complicated for the system (plus, if you are buying for a group, I guess you could still do the same but on different linked customer numbers - and that would be fair since it is one place per customer effectively).
EDIT: Oh, and glad you got your ticket. I got 2 but due to the way our tickets were allocated last season, I was only allowed 2 in the ballot so have to leave 1 child and my wife at home. [Post edited 12 Aug 2024 10:14]

It's designed to randomly add you a number, not a first come first served.
So you could be the first person to join the queue and you're allocated number 145 in the queue.
I think Chelsea started that model, I know a few Chelsea fans who have their phone, iPad, laptop, PC all setup for these situations with the aim of hopefully one of the devices getting in early |  | | |

Yeah I wouldn't call.it a queue, more of a throttling device to.allow a certain number through so as not to kill the server. Now learned it's random so get those devices ready! | |

I can see the logic, and I understand this to such a small extent that I can't possibly say there's a better way. However, once everyone knows it's random, that encourages logging in on multiple devices (I can't really blame people for doing that), which surely greatly increases the number of people in the queue, which I imagine is not great in terms of saving the server, and also presumably creates a misleading impression with fans as to how many people are in front of them.
