Anyone saying no to this needs their head banging on a wall. This man was voted englands player of the year 3 years ago, 28 years old so not at the end of his career. Yes he’s on a big wage but we wouldn’t be paying all of it.. 100k a week over 12 months is less than £5m, he’d cost at least £20m to buy so for me if possible, it’s a no brainer.

Had a nightmare loan at West Ham though.

Very much depends on which Phillips we get if there is anything to this.

I'm saying no. Was awful for West Ham.

Everton thought Deli Ali was a no brainer.

Seconded. It depends which Phillips we get. The one who played for Leeds - of course. The one who played for West Ham - heck no

But we've only got an opportunity to sign him because of his West Ham stint.

He'll go to Fulham on a year contract with the option for another year, assuming Man U keep McTominay. After 12 months, Fulham will want rid.

He'll then join Leeds in Championship after they've finished 3rd on goal difference and balls up the playoffs. He'll play great in their first game vs Stockport.

Says so in my tea leaves

He hadn’t played for months though prior to that, then chucked into the starting 11 at West Ham. He’s had a good pre-season for city and in a midfield pivot he is exactly what we need, very good passing range and good legs to get about the pitch.

As others have said it depends which version of Phillips we get, but it's definitely more of an expensive risk than a no brainer

For reference on the 'englands player of the year' thing. Micah Richards once come second in that, and I'm sure villa fans will tell you that they'd rather he had never joined!

Yes, his West Ham stint was about as bad as it could have gotten.

I'd be very interested to see what he'd do in this team though as he would be back to being a mainstay. An integral part - which he was at Leeds and thrived.

I'd have faith in KM to get him back to that kind of level.

It’s a massive yes from me but I don’t think we stand a real chance. If KMck believes he can get him to the fitness level required, he lifts up that mdf over night. If there any chance at all we go big on the loan fee and take the pain for a year. I’d expect 3-6 others to be ahead of us which is a downer!

Anyone saying yes to this needs their head banging on a wall. This man hasn't done anything since he was voted England's player of the year 3 years ago. He's 28 years old, so if we buy him and it doesn't work out we won't be able to move him on easily. Whilst 100k a week over 12 months is less than £5m, if we get him on a loan, we wouldn't be developing our own player and his wages may destabilise the team. Therefore buying a player like Hamer or Sheaf at around £20m is a no brainer.

Has he had ongoing injury/fitness problems? We obviously don’t want a player who’s getting towards the end of his career who’s injury-prone.

I think some people haven’t watched enough PL football, especially in the flesh, to realise just how massive a step up it is- if we can get a proven PL player like Ohillips he would be by some distance our best player

It depends what Phillips we get - he made costly mistakes in each game he played for WHU last season, but I agree he has been quality before that

Some people have obviously let the recent success go to their head, saying no to someone of his calibre is mental. Hamer is a good player but he’s 5ft 7, with Morsy not being the tallest either we need some more height in the middle.

I've watched plenty and saw what he was like at West Ham

It definitely feels more high risk, high reward. No idea on what sort of deal he'd be on but it would surely be a much higher wage than anyone else at the club and if he doesn't live up to it then it's got the potential to upset the squad harmony

Right, so Micah Richards who came 2nd, not 1st, and who signed for Villa about 7 years after he was awarded with the prestigious 2nd place

Then we're best just sticking with Morsy and Luongo i guess.

He did and looked pretty poor for them, but under KM’s guidance he would surely thrive.

It’s ‘just a feeling’ but that’s another reason, recalling our last season in the top flight, that I have bad vibes about it (if it were to happen).

I didn't realise that Phillips was the only CM option

Our scouting network really has gone downhill!

Also, I said it's a gamble. Doesn't feel like too controversial an opinion?!?

I think he would, but it might take him a month or two to get back up to speed, and as he's on £150k p/w how would we ever sign him, would we just be getting him back to his best for someone else to reap the rewards?

That's the one

Yes time frame is longer but he would have been younger than Phillips is now when he signed for Villa.

Was just using it as an example of a bright career going southwards pretty quickly
