There really is nothing wrong with having a betting partner. The thing I hate is having a random betting sponsor on your kit, especially if it is for a foreign market.

There's the likes of Ladbrokes etc., though, and then the likes of these shady Asian betting firms, with no UK-facing presence, who simply exist in the English game in order to circumvent local gambling laws. There are a lot of good articles on the matter, and Martin Calladine is a bit of an expert in such things. This is just one reputable article that I was able to easily find for the purposes of this post: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/2361984/2021/02/03/gambling-premier-league-shir There was also the whole debacle of Crystal Palace's recent tie-in with Asian gambling firm Net88, featuring fake profiles and alleged board members who turned out to be long-deceased Instagram influencers, whilst offering bets on such wonderful sports as cock-fighting. https://www.vegasslotsonline.com/news/2024/06/14/reporter-claims-crystal-palace- All the information unearthed by Calladine was backed up by very good evidence, but that still wasn't enough to prevent either Palace or Net88's highly-paid lawyers from silencing him with a SLAPP suit. Not to mention the widespread cons insiduously spread through the UK. I personally have been raging for years about the pitch-perimeter moving ads for betting firms that every single person at a live game, including kids, have no alternative but to see. Ditto devious, disingenuous TV gambling ads in the middle of prime-time dramas etc. on commercial channels, which purport to "care" about their customers by telling them to take breaks, gamble responsibly etc. - at the same time as they are hypocritically flogging their "casino" games etc., in which the odds are totally rigged against thosw same customers.

Looks like we’ve got a new betting sponsor/partner. on 13:01 - Aug 18 with 2277 views | viewfromtheu2 | Have reached out to the club regards this and enquired about their decision making and vetting process. That said, having done some research myself in a few hours I couldn't find a single positive thing about the situation about a shadowy ghost firm with some links to some pretty unsavoury activity that don't align with our club values

Looks like we’ve got a new betting sponsor/partner. on 13:24 - Aug 18 with 2165 views | Churchman | If it’s imposed by the PL then it’s something we have to tolerate. If it’s within ITFCs control, we should have nothing to do with it. Like drinking, smoking you name it, that’s individual choice. But the club should not be advertising and promoting it. Gambling for some is an addiction and can be a ruinous one. I’m not by nature a gambler so maybe I shouldn’t comment, but I have witnessed the damage it can do. [Post edited 18 Aug 2024 13:40]

No idea where this idea they’re imposed on us by the PL has come from, other clubs don’t have them and they’re listed as a club partner on our website https://www.itfc.co.uk/commercial/sponsors-partners/

An individual (maybe on another thread) thought it was the case, & I think everyone else (incl me tbh) just ran with it! Thanks for putting thinga straight though. **Edit - oh, hang on ... latest post on other thread - "8XBet on 15:09 - Aug 18 with 164 views DublinBlue84 8XBet on 12:58 - Aug 18 by viewfromtheu2 I've reached out to the club about this and await their response to the matter. The whole thing is weird, the link on the club home page leads to a twitter account that barely tweets, and the twitter account has a link to a website that doesn't exist. Sure the whole point of advertising is to get people to place a bet...so weird. Yesterday they advertised 8xbet.com which now directs to 8xbet.men which is a weird splash screen with three CHelsea players, that links to 8xbet.co.uk. It appears to be linked to these folk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TGP_Europe " [Post edited 18 Aug 2024 16:16]

I wouldn't rule it out just yet. Every single televised Prem game so far has had 8xbet or Fun88 (same group) pitch side advertising

There is plenty wrong with having a betting partner of any kind. 500 suicides a year by gambling addiction, 1.44m addicted to gambling, 46% of the population is considered vulnerable to harm via gambling. It is incredibly dangerous and football is just willing people on get involved with it, at every level. A club so founded in its community and its area should be staying a million miles away from it.

Looks like we’ve got a new betting sponsor/partner. on 15:35 - Aug 16 by Reus30 | I am sorry but we need to do better. Firstly, gambling as a sponsor is just wrong. The amount of men and women afflicted with a gambling issue is increase ever more - the amount of people topping themselves over is such a massive issue. It destroys families. Yet here we are, back in the big time for not even a minute and straight onboard with the dodgy gambling firms. It's just so wrong and what a pooy message to send out to our fans. EDIT - and no I don't care if this gives us flexibility with FPP or PSR or whoever cares. This is too close to home. [Post edited 16 Aug 2024 15:37]

Completely agree with this, it seems obscene that alcohol sponsorship was banned and yet betting still gets plastered everywhere. It wrecks too many lives and yes, we should strive to be better than that.

opinions are fine and everyone has different ones, but there are a lot of assumptions did we have a choice IDK, do we have to comply with PSR YES, like i said if we had a choice those who dont like it can make up the difference i dont mind as long as ny club gets better, all right to force the club to stop things other clubs wont so it will only hurts us.

Drinking and gambling are enjoyed in moderation by millions. Then there are a minority (albeit a significant one) who are not able to cope with doing those things. As long as things are transparent such as odds and there is no predatory behaviour, then there is no need to ban things especially if there are very low limits on bets.

It really depends on the betting. If the club are accepting small bets at the ground for the score prediction and first scorer, then it just isn't as dangerous as some people make out. The lottery isn't dangerous. You can't ban everything because it could potentially be harmful to some people. I'm by no means an expert on addiction, but in my experience, addiction is filling a hole and serving a psychological need rather than being something that will catch out even people with the strongest self control.

Alcohol advertising didn't need to be banned. I'm shocked that companies didn't just release soft drinks and advertise the same name for their soft drinks. I'm more concerned about energy drinks being targeted at children, because it is legal for children to buy energy drinks.
