"the Ipswich crowd was really, really loud..." 18:43 - Aug 23 with 4628 viewsurbanpenguin

Let's keep this up all season, even if we get some losses in a row. The thirteenth man is a cliché, but it has an effect

Our fans home and away , are immense, but that Liverpool Game was unbelievable, I just hope win or lose, we maintain that all season.

A few minutes into the game and I was actually thinking I should've brought earplugs, it was the loudest I've known it in SBR Upper.

Poll: would you rather

In the modern era I reckon Soton last year would take some beating.

At home - Back in the day I reckon Norwich night game circa 76 (5-0), Liverpool Mariner goal circa 77 ot Notts Forest Muhren free kick circa 80 take some beating also.

BTW - there was a fantastic photo of the Muhren goal hanging up in The Falcon back in the day when Kay had it. If anyone knows where I can get same photo I’ll pay decent money for it.

Don't know if it was the broadcast, but the noice didn't quite transform as well as for instance the Soton game last season. I'm sure it was a cracking atmosphere, and having opposition managers taking notion is great!

Opening day defeat by a 2 goal margin.

Shades of Fergie 2000 in those comments following our first home match.

Hopefully history keeps rewriting itself with a season even half as good as that one.

No idea if this is the one you're on about but I do love this of Arnold.

Pretty sure the Forest strike was right footed. And a night game.

I said the same. I’ve never heard noise or sustained noise like it, and it was made because the noise was coming from all four sides of the ground, apart from a section of church mice in red. For me the atmosphere just took the whole experience to another level, and I’ve been going for yonks.

Actually, Arnold doesn’t look like Arnold there does he.

In fact he looks like a hybrid of Paul Mariner and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The phot I’m thinking was in black and white and was taken from NS end and Arnie scored in Churhmans end

And yes, Gainsy, he right footed it for a laugh.

The crowd after that goal was banging.. but for longevity , that Liverpool match was a cracker. You must have been young back in those matches, your only 10 years on me surely.. or you use oil of ulay..

I couldn’t make it last Saturday, but my daughter who is new to it all, (jumped on the bandwagon in L1) said the noise was incredible, really loud…

It would be worth contacting the Club's media department to ask. When I worked there I had access to huge amounts of archive photos, and your description of that photo did ring a bell. They used to have player specific folders for photos, so you never know, you might get lucky.

Definitely need to keep this up all season! Realistically our season starts next weekend, first 3pm Saturday kick off at home, new players a bit more bedded in, transfer window closed, winnable game, we need to do our part and bring the noise

I think that you are referring to this game Lucan.

It sounded very loud on the telly.

In the flesh, one of the loudest which I’ve heard PR to be was a random night match versus Sunderland. Mid 90s I think, possibly on a Friday night. The most partisan was when we played Charlton in the Play-Offs. Think it was a midday kickoff on a Sunday.

With what we have left of blue action tucked up in that cobbold stand and an ageing north lower, the only way we can make it loud is get everyone singing. We just do not have a single loud stand any more, the acoustics are shot

If we got a proper kop stand built it would be different, leeds have two i believe. No wonder tgey are loud

I think the game you are referring to was in April 1998. Sunderland and ourselves were pushing for promotion. The ground was full and it was actually a Tuesday night. It was one of the best atmospheres of the time and very loud. In a very good, close game we won 2-0.

The two Bolton play off games were particularly loud, as were plenty of games last season (Southampton late on, West Brom last ten mins, Huddersfield), but for sustained deafening noise last Saturday took some beating. The whole ground was making a racket. It was great.
