It was a great occasion yesterday to be in that away end and see many of the core of the League one team start against the behemoth that is modern day City.
Fantastic to go one nil up. I thought the support was great too, once we got going.
Everything about the City experience is slightly depressing. You can't even walk around the ground because of the fencing - they've spent so much on making everything efficient and controlled in that way that it doesn't really feel like a football ground. Thank god for Portman Road.
The murals and flags they have all have the look of being 'official' and club agreed. It's like watching a very slick entertainment group so an impression of ultras.
The ground (it's not really a ground is it) is impressive in an 'O2' type arena is impressive - that's to say large and slick but there's no beauty to it.
As expected, they have unbelievably good players. But even that was a bit disappointing - the Pep tactical approach doesn't really allow the handbrake off. It is football by constant pressure of having better technical players, but there's not much expression.
Was great when we scored. Their penalty and the first experience of VAR was depressing. What a farce it is. The ref running to the screen - What's the point? It's already decided when they are told to go over. Had we survived that 10 minutes after we scored who knows what would have happened.
But the thing that most depressed me was how many of us are so keen to write off players who have been so good for us and who we all love. Mass, Woolfy etc. People were joking about Ladapo coming on if he'd been on the bench. I really hate it.
It may well be the case that they are not as good as players we've brought in but the horrible modern football approach of 'not good enough, get rid ' and 'he's not good enough for this level' is so depressing in normal times, let alone when it's home-grown players and players who have given so much. We are meeting the reality of the Premier League and no doubt it requires ruthlessness but it's pretty depressing. For my money Mass and Woolfy have done really well in both games.
What is football? That's a surprisingly hard question to answer. I'm glad we're back competing where we should be and there's so much to be proud of with our club. I wouldn't want to be successful though if City is what success looks like.
Onto Wimbledon.

The ‘negativity’ around the experience of the ground, fans, game etc is a bit weird, not sure what people expect? That’s the way it is with the top 6 now, football tourism, I think the problem with a lot of our (probably older) fans is they’ve probably not engaged with the Premier League for years and have no idea about it.
It’s not going to be like that at PR and it’s not going to be like that away from the big 6 for away games - as with all clubs there are of course some genuine longtime fans and they don’t like all the tourism attendees as much as an anyone! I met and spoke to ‘Pete the badge’ (look him up) at Piccadilly yesterday, a 79 year old bloke who’s seen it all, I asked if he preferred ‘the old days’ or these modern times…he said well it has to be now because we’re winning everything, I think we’d all be the same!
As for your last bit, ITFC fans slagging off the players is nothing new, whether that’s on here or at games, they’re just idiots who expect every player to play 10/10 every game - no possible. Yes Muric made some cockups yesterdays but he can’t be written off. Apart from him and Davis giving away the pen, avoidable, nobody really had a bad game, it was against the best team in the world ffs. The next 3 games will be a better judge for where we are at.

I suspect the narrative against them being stronger might have something to do with the unintentionally and beautifully ironic sequence of digits in your last paragraph!
Unproven, and let's be honest, Ipswich fans would love it if we'd done the same. All clubs have to overspend to try to catch up with the established elite.
FFP is only there to protect the cartel of the traditional big clubs.
It's sad really. In my 40 odd years of watching/going to football, Man City are up there as some of the best fans I've ever seen. The Kippax was great and were always fantastic value away from home.
Will always remember when they brought the inflatable bananas down to PR in the late 80s. A bit passe now but back then, nothing like that had been seen before. All just seems a little touristy now. Noticed on MOTD last night, rows of people taking pictures/videos on their phones.
A lot of the old guard from that club remain, but I reckon several have been priced out/disenfranchised.
I've been going to games for 35 years and have seen and been a part of a lot of banter, the majority of it friendly. This was anything but. The man and his daughter went at half time and didn't come back.
I agree with you, that's not banter!
Continually shouting out the 'C' word and aggressive winding up, is not acceptable and as you say, let's the other Town fans down especially away.. This is the reason I moved seats in the SBR, was next to a family including young females who spent the whole game abusing our players and shouting out 'that' particular word.and annoying everyone around them.
All for having a laugh, but that's not very bright

Really sorry to hear that. There were a few near me also more intent on confrontations with City fans than watching the actual game. They can't be football fans I think!
Unfortunately I’ve experienced this several times over recent years with pissed up idiots having no interest in the game but only in trying to wind up the home fans in this way in the Championship and League One. A couple of times it’s been the same person - he stood in one of my son’s seat space for one game so I remembered him clearly the second time. On both occasions this individual was ‘hammered’, to coin a phrase, and gave no support to the team and was oblivious that he had forced a 10 year old to move.

The bit about writing players off. Whilst I personally don't view some players as being prem quality and others have their own views on who also isn't. You've also got to acknowledge that the manager has decided to replace 9 of last seasons starting 11.
We haven't seen it yet as they aren't ready but that's what he's done. So Whilst he's no on twtd being vocal about his thoughts he's clearly decided that only 2 players in his mind are prem quality in davis and morsy. But even in morsys case he could in a few months not be.
We will however need finishers and this is where the likes of chappers etc come into it.
It's not nice after what they achieved. But you can't celebrate the ownership group and what they've done at the club but then be against their desire to become a stable prem club and that's not gonna happen without change.

I really doubt he's decided that only two have the quality to play in Prem but rather the squad needed a major upgrade, and that's what he has just about achieved now. At least 2 decent options for each position.

As much as you despise yesterday's experience surely you would have known what it's like before going? This is the premier league and you'll have similar experiences throughout the season. Instead of moaning about how much you hate it perhaps have some consideration for fans in 10+ or even 15+ who would love to go to games but wont get the opportunity, just enjoy the journey

I dunno Barca. Other than Cajuste for now. I don't see any of our new signings as anything other than starters.
Brilliant comment (saved me posting something similar) and it's good to see so many replies in support.
Those that post that certain players are not good enough and won't be in first XI seem to have overlooked a key part of the McKenna process:- It's a squad game and every member of our 25 man squad is important. We have seen this repeatedly over the last 2 seasons with substitutes winning or protecting so many points. We have seen players step up to cover injuries, suspensions or loss of form. Every member knows that if they perform well in training they stand a chance of getting the nod.
We will finalise the 25 man squad in the next week. We know that Mckenna will have faith that every member will not let us down in the PL. If they're good enough for KM, they're good enough to deserve the full support of every ITFC supporter. No exceptions.
Finally, I hope Mike Ashton sees this thread to reassure him that his efforts to preserve the ITFC culture as a family and community based club are widely supported. Hopefully he might be able to track down some of the thugs mentioned in this thread.

Burns, Hirst and Broadhead when they're back will all be fighting for a starting place. Tuanzebe and Johnson depends on formation. I haven't seen enough of O'Shea to say if he's an upgrade on Woolfie. There's five more who are possible starters. I think it's a bit simplistic to say we've got 9 new players to replace 9 that are not Prem quality.

I acknowledge KM said the players we have here need help to compete and the players themselves agree. I acknowledge he didn't say they have been replaced. I acknowledge that, like last season, some will become starters (Hirst), some won't (Taylor), and some will will do a bit of both (Hutchinson). I acknowledge there's nothing stopping the likes of Chappers stepping up his game and holding onto his starting place. I acknowledge this means KM doesn't think the likes of Ladapo are good enough for the Premiership. I Acknowledge I don't need to be disparaging about Ladapo (not saying you have been, but others have) you this to be true.

And Townsend. Townsend most certainly isn't a starter.
I can't believe we bring in someone with Cajuste's experience and talent, on loan with obligation to buy, and not have him earmarked as a starter. But, long term, I'd say that for Phillips too but how does that work with Morsy? IIRC there has been more than one thread about that.

I agree. I covered this in my original reply to the OP I think morsy and davis the ones KM sees as starters and the other remaining players as the covers. Rotators and finishes. But the new signings are his ideal first names on teamsheet. Think cajust and Phillips will do the swapping between them but maybe a rest for morsy occasionally to.
Of course we will see how it pans out however.
But we've seen how ruthless km is. Muric starting over Walton who had a solid enough game last week Szmodics starting away to man city Johnson being preferred wide rather than hutchinson which would have then allowed Chaplin to play in the 10.
Just think we've moved on as we need to.
Players as Barca said can force their place into the team. That's what we want.
We had loads of back and forth with them, 99% of them took it all in good spirits and they gave us plenty back which was fine by me.
At the end of the match two of them, that were dishing out and getting back the most “banter”, lent over shook our hands and wished us luck for the rest of the season.
We all left with smiles on our faces.
It was actually quite refreshing to be honest.
I struggle to see what this has to do with the post you replied to....maybe it's a geezer thing?

It really pisses me off too. My personal take is that a smallish portion of fans put venting their own impatience and simplistic expectations ahead of being prepared to have a considered and constructive and, above all, patient attitude, particularly after this team has grown and improved so majestically for two years. The entitlement label is very apt.
But while the instant moaners will always do their thing, it's down to me and you to not let it piss us off too much because everybody's different and 'twill ever be the case, at every football club in the land.
The judicious and temporary use of the div list is a wiser response than getting involved in it with crap like wot I 'ave just writ!
Just another perspective to show that not everyone is a cock?
So you're saying there is a more positive way of seeing what was reported as having happened? Replying directly to that post as Bloots did is completely disrespectful and appears to try and excuse the behaviour.
