Ruins the life of a defenceless baby forever, gets (less than) three years in prison. Just how?

Absolutely incredible. Completely mind boggling.

It seems an incredibly lenient sentence. The potential 10% sentence reduction is neither here nor there, but 36/18 months for that is poor (especially in light of the sentences the ‘political’ prisoners are getting (I include right wing racists and non-violent eco warriors in that).

Instead of facing the problems the Country has whether it be Immigration, water, gas and electricity suppliers, the allowing of essential infrastructure, Company's to be sold to foreigners. Allowing large swathes of major cities to be sold to speculators causing massive increases in rents and the cost of housing. The allowance of Company's and Councils to get away with things like flammable cladding on buildings. Allowing Councils to waste vast sums on speculative ventures and then expecting everything from car parks to Council tax to be raised to bail them out. Nothing is done to alleviate these problems. It' fiddling whilst Rome burns. I could go on forever about Governmental waste whilst expecting the tax payer to fork out more and more.

Government and public sector is a mess. But not a lot the current government can do about this particular example.

I agree this case is disturbing and the guy should have been facing more than 3 years in the first place. But what is the solution to this 'fudge'? There's around 100 prison spaces left in the UK, so what do we do in the interim whilst the new government looks to build more prisons? I'm just genuinely not sure there is an alternative solution.

The thing is about sentences, unless you go and read the sentencing remarks, you will only get half the story. There will have been reasons which are not generally explained in a newspaper story which takes a particular angle, as well as clear guidelines within which the court will have been operating. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

we (ITFC) have a like mind individual that walks amongst us too. How the club haven’t found a way to stop him attending is beyond me. How he’s not been bullied out of not going is even more mind blowing.

How can they stop him. If he has served his time, however lenient we all think it was, he is a free man. He could probably take the club to court if they barred him. Your last sentence is definitely something I thought would happen but obviously hasn't.

Re the last point that clearly isn’t the answer but it’s obviously tempting. I physically had to restrain a friend of mine from going for him at Burton away a couple of years ago. I don’t think it would’ve ended well. I spent the journey home wondering if I should’ve just let him do it but didn’t really want my mate to get in trouble as he’s got kids at home. Certainly wasn’t in protection of that c***.

Sounds like he convinced a jury it was without intent which will have reduced the sentence. Frustratingly if he'd had an extra 12 months on his sentence (still too short IMO) then at least he wouldn't have been eligible for the earlier release. I show remorse if I forget to hold a door open for the person behind me. How can you nearly kill a child and not have any?

I hear you. But please do bear in mind that these outlier cases, set out from an angle in newspapers, are rarely a reasonable indicator of the norm or even reality.

I think that’s likely been the case many times. I’ve seen him at a game once, about 3 years back. But typically stood with my own kids so hardly the ideal time to even consider even approaching him. As I didn’t even want to explain to them what he’d done. As sitters says, he’s not seen him about of late… but on Twitter about a month back someone mentioned they had. So really no idea if he goes or not

If things continue as they are we may get to the point where incitement by tweeting about a violent act gets a bigger punishment than committing the same violent act

I must admit this wasn’t the chap I was expecting to see,the other baby beater used to stand a few rows in front of me in the LN. They gave a fantastic rendition of such and such add swear words etc one game,he and his mate both turned round and looked,I didn’t know who he was until someone told me what he’d done. Shocking stuff.
