Mobile phone signal… 18:36 - Sep 9 with 4649 viewsJuno68

I am currently on GiffGaff and can never get a signal inside FPR (lower West Stand).

As I am in the process of changing supplier, wondered if anyone has experienced this? Frustrating when you can’t check on other scores.

GiffGaff uses the O2 network, I would suggest going to the network direct, O2, Voda or EE, that way you get the full bandwidth, not share the bit that the likes of GiffGaff, Virgin, Tesco and others who buy a bit of bandwidth off the major networks.

With 30000 people, the vast majority with a phone of some description, getting much in the way of bandwidth is pretty unlikely.

I’m with EE and PR is the one place I can’t get a signal on matchdays! I’m also West Stand, middle tier near the tunnel.

If you're using 4G on a match day, you don't have a chance of getting good internet. 5G is a lot better if you have the access (at least it is on 3). If not, turn off 4G and use 3G instead, it's slow, but it works.

I'm on o2 and get nothing on 4g.
I get the absolute tinniest amount on 2/3g

Don’t change to Vodafone. Dreadful service at Portman Road and many other places. It’s not a question of signal strength (get full bars at PR) but bandwidth capacity.

I'm with Lycamobile and its 5G is excellent inside the ground. Best network ever, but often not vey good in other locations......

I'm usually in Cobbold, use EE on a Samsung, can be very slow.

I find Vodafone excellent everywhere except Suffolk.

And I live in Suffolk 😳

I know that was then, but it could be again..

One of the things I dislike at the match is other people checking the scores while the match is being played and over hearing the scores

There’s only 1 score that matters and you don’t need a phone for it.

I’m amazed how many people are on their phones mid match!!

I was with Vodafone for many years and never had any browsing capability in Portman Road. I always found it frustrating seeing others around me at half time managing to message and browse.

I changed to 3 a couple of years ago and now never have any problems at Portman Road.

Three has been poor for the past three or four seasons (used to be fine) in block H (west stand, middle tier). Have often hoped the club would install WiFi.

I think it's great people cannot get a signal --- watch the fecking game and at HT have a general chat.

One point a bod told me is, Bluetooth, when you burst that phone into life it will often check for other Bluetooth devices, and that probably means 20,000+ devices near you. That same bid who sits near me claims he always disables Bluetooth while in the ground and his Internet performance is as quick as normal. When he turns on Bluetooth performance slows down and he's convinced its caused by the fact Bluetooth is using a huge percentage of the phones performance trying to connect with those 20,000+ devices that the phone slows down loading Internet pages
