Kevin Ellis - Ipswich Town 16:58 - Sep 24 with 6662 views | Marshalls_Mullet | I was listening to the Blue Monday podcast, and Joe mentioned Kevin Ellis was part of the Telegram group. The name immediately rang a bell from squad photos etc from the time, and of him being a youth prospect. Probably also from Champ Manager squads too. I looked him up, and it appears he made one appearance for us, 10 mins as a sub in a 4-1 defeat v Arsenal. Does anyone know if this was the only professional appearance of his career? If so, it goes to show how precarious a football career can be. Did he suffer a career ending injury? After appearing in the Prem you would think you'd be almost guaranteed some form of career.

Scoring direct from corners used to be my speciality in my (mediocre) playing days. Must have done it 10 times. Give it the 2 hands in the air far post signal, then whip it near post, or use strong wind to your advantage (anyone who has played at Eastward Ho in Felixtowe will know what I mean!).

Kevin Ellis - Ipswich Town on 17:42 - Sep 24 by iusedtobegood | Few reasons really. Feels like there are a million people on social media and tv analysing our games now. Back in league 1 the itfc timeline was a smaller community and enjoyed sharing the goals as many wouldn’t see them especially in near real time. Also my boy has started playing men’s football this year so I am watching him most Saturday afternoons at 3pm. Still posting my opinion on the Blue Monday telegram group whether people want it or not 😂 Can highly recommend it, it’s like Twitter before all the African Premier League fan boys jumped on every post.. well if you can ignore Mullet |
Genuine question - how does Telegram work? Is it another twitter type platform, or more like whatsapp?

Played at Eastwood Ho once as a striker and in the first half (wind against us), I didn't get out of my half. The airport (Gainsboro SC) could be blustery to say the least too.

Kevin Ellis - Ipswich Town on 18:01 - Sep 24 by Asa | Even more bizarrely he bought me a pizza when I was a kid. Went with my dad to see one of his mates, who for some bizarre reason had Kevin Ellis and Lee Bracey round. Ellis bought us all pizzas and seemed a really nice bloke, albeit I was 15/16 I guess and that's entirely based on him buying me a pizza! |
Haha I have no recollection of this. Maybe I found £20 down back of the sofa. 🤣

I only played one game at Gainsborough - I share it was a force 10 gale! Was the only time I’ve seen the ball kicked forward only to have it blown back and land further back than where it started.

Oh it could get pretty farcical there. Balls from other pitches blowing on to the one your playing on and not knowing which one to go for.

Any idea what happened to these guys? Thompson and Norfolk didnt seem to break through... I saw Niven (he mayve been a year or two younger) play away at Sheff Utd and he looked amazing, but it never really happened for him.

Kevin Ellis - Ipswich Town on 19:30 - Sep 24 with 1569 views | ChrisAllen7 | Kevin Ellis was my manager in the Ipswich Town academy between 2000 - 2002. I also had: Micky Stockwell 03-04 Trevor Whymark 03-04 Paul Cosson ( RIP 🙏) 99 - 2000 Steve Greaves 00-02 ( Not sure he played for Ipswich, maybe Fulham) Jim Magilton ( Taking his coaching badges ) 04 Ian Smith - Academy director ( Absolute prick!! He used to bully me and treat so many other boys horribly. Ended up getting done for stealing money off Academy players making their way into first team squad) Bryan Klugg - Great coach ( Academy director )

Kevin Ellis - Ipswich Town on 17:45 - Sep 24 by Marshalls_Mullet | I have found myself questioning whether I enjoy following Town in the Prem (from afar as I'm not Ipswich based), I don't mind the lack of wins, its more the lack of access and the hysteria that surrounds the Prem that puts me off a bit. |
I live 200 miles away, and the last 2 years have been some of the best ITFC days of my life. I've been going regularly since late 80s...and have loads of fond memories. But, the last 2 seasons - sharing it with my kids has been incredible. We are enjoying this season - kids def preferring trips to Etihad than Morecambe - but, it is a very different experience. Portman Rd for the Liverpool game, was as good (in my memory) as the Man U game last time.

Kevin Ellis came to my primary school to do a coaching session with sean thacker a few years before that. Ellis seemed like a good bloke and i thought sean thacker was going to get me a trial at one point. Then i was on one of those summer camps and won best player so i asked if they wanted to watch me play. One of the senior coaches laughed in my face and said i was too small to get near a trial. Wonder if it was that smith guy.

Sad to read that about the coach. Hopefully most coaches appreciate the power they hold and what it means to kids to even get a trial.

Well it was definitely appreciated at the time. As a kid I wasn't across the details but in my mind all this time it was something to do with an agent or mate of an agent, so think it was at their place and you'd popped in to see them. There was some plastering or building work going on in the room and I balanced the pizza box on an old stool and sat on the floor. We'd been about to order some food and you offered to pay for mine. Was probably less than £10 in those days. Must have been about 1996ish. Hopefully you've actually met Lee Bracey lol, who I always thought was the other player who'd turned up there separately, or this looks like the most randomly pointless made up tale ever! Fully appreciate why it may not be up there for you in terms of memories! [Post edited 25 Sep 2024 11:47]
