I can't see the Conservatives winning the next election regardless, whoever it is is going to be a caretaker, a William Hague (or perhaps more accurately, an IDS). Eventually another flashy 'call me Dave' type will come along and drag them back to the centre. Whether Starmer himself is still PM at that point is a different matter.

Glad he's out. He should be nowhere near politics.

Jenrick also seems to be a polished turd.

Badenoch, although fairly unpleasant, does at least seem to have a brain.

Truly impaired.

I can

Labour didn't win because people wanted labour, they just didn't want conservatives

Labour so far have taken away heating allowance, look to ruin thousands of landlords livelyhoods with the reform act, changing IHT CGT too, people will end up putting back conservatives just because they don't want labour.

Moreover Cleverly may have wanted to sit it out in the end. Build up his profile, but wait for the lunacy to blow over.

I think you overestimate the number of people who have an investment property and the number of people who are getting an inheritance anywhere near the threshold.

Also, we all know how this goes. Deep cuts not and then in the 18 months before the next election they go into spend mode. The whole thing is a circus.

Truly impaired.

Badenoch is a horrible, nasty piece of work with some very dubious backers too.

The membership will go for her as she is the 'nastiest' about foreigners.

Wasn't quite my point tbh more about the different types of people they'd fked off in record time. Of course no comparison between the two actual things.

I can't see the Conservative Party has a future moving right under either of these two. It will just be a race to the bottom with Reform to see who can be the most swivel eyed. The days of one nation, financially conservative, socially liberal Tories are finally over - unless it's now called Starmerism.

Interesting thought. I did see him as the most 'leader-in-waiting' of the various candidates with good levels of support.

Could it be beyond the realms of possibility that he knows that the writing is on the wall for whoever takes over from Rishi, and feels that a good showing this time around would be enough to help him place himself front and centre in the 2027 leadership election?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Dreadful for the country. We will have reform and the tories trying to out trump each other.

Speaks volumes for the character of the modern consevative party.
