Can anyone recommend music similar to The Prodigy? 17:35 - Oct 14 with 6792 viewsMattinLondon

Be great if someone on here can recommend bands similar to The Prodigy but a bit more guitar based. I guess something like them and the Chemical Brothers meets Oasis - or Suede etc.

Thanks in advance.

Can’t leave this out. Forgotten gem.

I'll go one better - the 10 minute remix by Youth on the Two Fingers My Friend remix album is a work of art.

PWEI still gigging and well worth seeing live…

Can’t believe that particular album is now 30 years old!

Prodigy were unique as lots of people have pointed out. There were a lot of indie / dance crossovers at the time. I was lucky enough to live through the musical evolution from indie to dance. Such an amazing time in music. Their use of breakbeats was unusual as well. So from a indie crossover place as people have mentioned - pwei, carter usm?! The farm were a bit slicker, primal scream.

From more of a dance angle you could try future sound of London. Some early drum and bass on reinforced might also work.

Fluke
Chemical brothers

Photek
Tek 9
Raga twins

That’s so hard as they are/were so unique and their style changed so much over the 90s.
You could take a few bits from maybe primal scream screamdelica.. maybe underworld..maybe even KLF and various offshoots … Senser possibly.

They only released one album bit try Radiator, the album had the same name. IDK how easy it would be to fund these days but fans of original Gran Turismo will recognise at least 1 track.

Try Janus Stark. It was the band fronted by Gizz Butt who was their live guitarist

Sore then at Fat Pauli's in Anglia Square sometime around 1999. Great little dirty venue where you could served, play pool and watch and live bands. Stage dived into a crowd of about 12 at that gig.

What about exploring some yummy industrial if you want geetars.

On a NIN-tip, ex-NIN guitarist Richard Patrick's 'Filter' might be worth a listen...

As the boards resident The Prodigy nut: I'm also partial to Pendulum (which some consider Prodigy-Lite) and of course Chase and Status, Leftfield, but you don't get much guitar in that direction.

Someone already mentioned Senser - I recall Liam Howlett himself name dropping them as being the best at balancing rock and dance elements (this was an interview back in the 90s when not so many were doing this).

For breakbeat heavy stuff, I do like Stanton Warriors.

As a DJ Mr Jaguar Skills 'gets it' - check this mix out he did for BBC Radio recently. Outstanding.

Edit - just to add I will be seeing 'the bois' at Brixton in December. Boom.

I'd definitely take a listen to Pitchshifter - Jim Davies played guitar for both Pitchshifter and The Prodigy

Pendulum did remix Voodoo People

Dance floor filler in the early 2000s

The Prodigy still use a part of this remix in their live version of Voodoo. Starts off with the OG mix then transitions. Goes down nicely.

Jim Davies was their first live guitarist. First time I saw him (or any guitarist) on the stage with them was this: (on TV sadly, not in person)

I also had the same T-Shirt he's wearing there.

Sorry, am aware I have hijacked this thread to just post some favourite Prodigy vids :-D

I remember Liam ( not the others so much) from the Barn. He/they would often come to our early attempts at after parties/squat parties/raves. One of my best mates in England is still friends with him since those days.

Baxters, you'd probably like the stuff I posted in my selection of older stuff on page 1. It's all breakbeat, and pretty raucous.

Check out Fluke.

In my opinion the best electronic outfit of the 90's but often overlooked.

Seen them live several times as I have Prodigy, Chems, Leftfield Orbital and beat them all hands down live with only Leftfied coming close and Orbitals 94 set at Glasto probably cause I was munted.

And some older stuff - reason I asked was that back in my club DJing days I used to play stuff like this is peak time sets. Big chunky beats, and big guitars. Bear in mind these are DJ tunes so have a long intro - usually the main tune drops in at about 1 minute.

I met Jim Davies at a wedding I was gigging at. Think he found it amusing that I knew who he was and that I was a Pitchshifter fan yet I was playing guitar at a wedding for a 50s rock n roll band

If you are a 70's child who lived the 90's then you would know the game Wipeout.

Both the first 2 games soundtracks are a moment in time of some quality electronic music from that era.

Interesting to see so many suggestions, but none that I'd immediately think of (unless I missed them skim-reading). I personnally put them into my Big Beat playlists. So...

Fatboy Slim
Basement Jaxx
Chemical Brothers
Chase & Status
Tim Deluxe
Apollo 440
Groove Armada
Junkie XL

A fair amount of these artists will have guitar loops through them, and as the genre suggests, a big beat. Sorry if this is obvious and not what you were looking for.

The brief wasn't that stuff needed to sound like the prodigy, it was more dance music meets indie, hence the suede and oasis reference in the op.

Clearly these do not sound like the prodigy, but they all have dance influences.

Glad that you enjoyed them though!
