To be fair, the defender did play the ball. I am not sure what ball that is, though.

Perhaps VAR thought the defender couldn't avoid colliding with Chaplin and he shouldn't have got in his way. Therefore Chaplin must have initiated the contact and didn't have the ball at the time ... or abbreviated, perhaps Stuart Attwell's guide dog distracted him from watching the incident.

I am really looking forward to when these decisions start evening themselves out. Beating Tottenham and Man Utd with 2 decisions going against each of them and VAR ignoring them really will be fun!

We're owed quite a few if they really do 'even out'.

Knowing our luck, we'll get one that goes our way by getting a disputed penalty in injury time when we're already 3 down.

Maybe that's the prem plan

Give us nothing upto Christmas. Then everything after tonhave the best prem story ever of a newly promoted side bottom 3 at Xmas staying up at the end beating man city 1-0 at home. Liverpool 0-1 away.

There’s more chance of Nelson getting his eye back than us getting any decisions against those two.

Give the ref some credit Keno, how is he meant to see that from his position 8 yards away looking directly at it? It's not like he was PERFECTLY positioned is it?
And when Chappers dives in the box likes he's been shot, at least the ref doesn’t book him, which he should have done of course.

I think we are all being very harsh

He was the only person who a split millisecond before contact saw the invisible alien death ray hit chappers and make him fall over

ironically he did book Chaplin shortly afterwards, for reasons unknown.

What we can be 100% certain of, is had that been a Town defender challenging a Leicester player that c .. of ref would have given a penalty immediately. No questions asked.

In fairness, Chaplin was having a right go at the fourth official etc as he left the pitch. That booking was fair enough, though his ire was entirely justified.

I can sort of see a small possible percentage of doubt as it's body on body, which is always a little less clear. If the Leicester player had made contact with an outstretched leg then even this referee gives it.

I still think it's an 80-90% penalty and if that's Burgess on Haaland, Saka, Palmer etc. it's a stonewall.

Its 100%. Just no debate to be had on it once you see the good angle.

Refs angle I can just about see how he may have thought it was a manufactured contact or a coming together. But he should have been checking through var, and var should plainly have called him to the monitor.

If he watched the angle we have all seen and not given it, the only conclusion would be corruption.

As the ref jogged across the edge of the box his right hand is down by his back right pocket.

As the clip ends, immediately after the contact on Chappers, he’s looking straight it and his right hand his up in front of his mouth. RIGHT THERE!! BLOW THE BLOODY THING THATS WHY YOU’VE GOT IT!!!!!

Great, now I’m re-annoyed.

What do you mean by "he should have been checking through var"? Can the ref ask for Var's help?

Who asks for VAR to be used during a match?
Only the referee, who can inform the VAR that a decision should be reviewed.

Can players ask for a decision to be checked by VAR?
No. In fact, yellow cards will be issued to players or club staff who aggressively make the VAR signal to a match official.

*Just read this. It seems ridiculous to me that players and club staff aren't allowed to ask for VAR intervention. Ultimately, the referee still has the power to award the penalty or not. Obviously players and club staff are likely to react aggressively if a stonewall penalty is not given. What a shower of Sh*t.

Sorry, I didn't know the ref could ask for help, (like a cricket umpire 'going upstairs' for a run-out.) I thought the ref just makes a decision and then the Var people alert the ref if they think he might want to take anpther look.

I didn't know either. Somebody posted this link and I just copy and pasted a part of it I read:

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/42054872/var-review-lisandro-martinez-col

I'm not angry so much that the penalty wasn't given. It's more the fact that the referee could clearly see how incensed the Ipswich players were. Which should have given him a strong element of doubt that he made the correct decision. Which he didn't, it was stonewall. So I cannot for the life of me understand why the ref would not choose to ask for a VAR review to have another look when that option was readily available to him.
