Anyone else struggling to enjoy the prem? 11:55 - Nov 4 with 5091 viewssmithy91

The VAR controversies and uneven handling of small offences (bookings etc) are making it difficult to enjoy the premier league for me.

It feels like we will need to be hammering teams to have insurance against the refereeing to get a win. The general use of VAR is even worse than i had anticipated from watching highlights/international competitions.

I think fans need to think about rallying against the lack of accountability (refereeing and FFP), VAR and general bias as they did with the european super league. Because with the above we basically have a closed system (not to mention the disparity in finances), i.e. the top 6 , which seems to, more often than not, have extra protection from officiating.

Probably due to their recent wins, it appears now that Leicester also has some sort of support.

We should not be going in to the Premier ship just with the mindset that var and officials should be kind to us for us to survive..if we are not good enough ,we don't deserve to be in the league. A lot of our players are finding it a massive step up ..yes we have two players to cover for same position..but that second player is really only championship level. Plus with our injuries. It's not helping us ...if we had another 5 points..id definitely be more looking forward to nxt game..but with 5 from 10 games. Can we see double that from our nxt 10...which is the minimum we definitely need..im struggling to see it..and the more we get cut away from two or 3 above us ..im.afraid its a case of just seeing the season out .

Although it's been tough for us I'm generally enjoying watching us compete with the best. Yes, it's been frustrating and painful at times but it was to be expected. Having not taken the slightest interest in the Premier for years it's been an education following the whole league and watching some of the best players in the world.

For anyone missing the Championship I can tell you that initially I also decided to follow what was going on there as we all knew the clubs and teams so well. I watched a couple of games early on and am rapidly losing interest. The standard and atmosphere appears so much lower then we are experiencing now. I really don't want to go back.

I agree, this was a begrudging post...sick of talking about it but the annoyance at the decisions is too much to ignore :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the villa game amongst a couple of others. But for most of our games this season, where we havent been well beaten, its left a bitter taste...

Part of the frustration is how well we have competed in most games, but when we have we have also been up against incompetence/bias

Enjoying it.

Every game I’m still amazed that we’re actually here

Waited 20+ years for it, never thought it was going to happen, so just enjoying the ride and will continue to do so whatever happens.

Performance wise, for the most part, we’re not out of place, scoring good goals, wins will come.

Looking forward to Tottenham on Sunday, my third new ground in a row and final one of the season. With it being Spurs we could turn up and get something or get smashed.

Not enjoying the ref/VAR stuff of course but it’s like that every season!

Ahh come on, we knew it was going to be like this. Just ask fans of other recently promoted /relegated teams. Even Norwich fans will tell you the same.

I half expected the 'bias' but only really against the top 6....it is most games!

Although last season we also struggled to get given 'legitimate' penalties...

Waited 20 years to experience it and the excitement of playing the big teams, but in all honesty the novelty started to wear off a little when i noticed how easily cards were dished out to us v Pool.

It shouldnt need to 'even out' but here hoping for a couple of bs decisions going our way and 2 shock wins in the next two games...

The biggest issue I have with the Prem is VAR and not really because it's terribly inconsistent.

It's because it ruins the immediate moment of enjoyment and drama when you're a match-going fan.

It's a great addition for the sofa-fans. Heck, there'll be adverts in between VAR checks soon I'm sure.

But for match-going fans it's yet another kick in the nuts.

Agree we need to be at least two or three clear with very few minutes left to stop the officials seeing what's not there or ignoring any claim a town player may make,

Largely enjoying the awaydays (west ham excepted), I have low expectations points wise but much like last year, the opportunity to go to new grounds/places which arent Cheltenham, Fleetwood, Morecambe etc appeals, as does the £30 price cap (PR is a 450 mile round trip so every game is time and money). We've largely done OK, decent atmosphere from the away end.

Been to PR 3 times. Disliked the first couple (Liverpool and Fulham) but thoroughly enjoyed Saturday. I thought the crowd were excellent

I've no really expectations about staying up or being relegated. 23/24 was extraordinary, and whilst I'm sure we look back at the Championship with rose-tinted specs, whatever happens we'll likely see quite a turnaround of players and staff over the next 18 months. Had we not been promoted every chance KM would have left, we'd potentially be mid-table in the Championship and we'd be wondering if we'd missed our one chance. Should the worst happen at least we're on the right side of the financial cliffedge so we should be competitive.

Best not to worry about it too much, let's see what the next 12-18 months bring, rememberng we're only in year 4 of the ownership, so we're we'll ahead of what we expected.

The question to those not liking the Prem so far, is what do you want then from next season when we are back in the Championship? Another promotion to get back to where you dislike (albeit hopefully better prepared) or just stay in Championship bobbing along without actually getting up (so back to the MM days)?

To be honest despite overperforming massively last year, i was hoping we would not only stay up but have a crack at a midtable finish (as those lot up the road have done in the not so distant past), and not become a yoyo club (again, those lot).

Of course, staying up would be brilliant and from our start/current position it would arguably be an even greater achievement

It’s a very fair point that, regardless of the bitter taste we left with, Saturday’s match was a tremendous occasion to be part of.

In an ideal scenario, there would be some sort of reform of PGMOL/ the premier league in our absence which would lead to either

a) fairer and more consistent use of VAR
b) abolishment of VAR, use of semi autimated offsides and goal line technology excluded

and addressing financial disparity and state funded ownership to even the playing field.

With the above im sure it would be much more enticing to return to

Bad VAR decisions are depressingly regular, but theoretically they even out over a season. They seem to affect weaker clubs more because they are desperate for points & often under more pressure anyway.
This season was never going to be huge fun as at least half our squad are Championship players, but we aren't embarrassing ourselves & if our injured players return & we get the hang of it, we still will have a chance of staying up.

Rather unrealistic aims, but we should get semi automated offside technology which will be an improvement

It's just not fun is it?

Ignoring us not winning, as I was totally expecting us to find it tough, it's not that, it's the stop start, it's the inability to celebrate anything in the moment, it's the general lack of games to look forward to.

I really don't see why there's such a gargantuan appetite for PL football by fans.

From a business point of view, undeniably I understand it, it's almost needed by clubs, that's not to say it's better entertainment, because it's not.

Still enjoying watching us though, we're not lying down and not quitting and long may that continue.

We just don't have £300m worth of player on the pitch and that's fine by me still.

Love our squad, even those some fans deem not good enough, who give a f. Imagine building your company up, getting a massive contract for your company and then being told to leave because you're not good enough.

F. That.

Let's go up, let them get some money and if we come down as expected, so be it. We go again next year.

I still believe we'll improve...might all come a little too late, but I ain't quitting on them.

Ok so anyone who wasn’t annoyed cast you eyes over this update from the Premier League app I just got on my phone. More focus from them (unsurprisingly) on Morsy’s naivety rather than the dodgy decisions.

Gut-punch equaliser shows Ipswich’s naivety

This was billed as a must-win game for Ipswich Town, a team yet to taste victory since promotion.

Saturday 2 November
Portman Road, Ipswich
Ipswich 1-1 Leicester

Jordan Ayew’s equaliser in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time must surely be the most devastating, most nauseating goal conceded by any team in the Premier League this season.

It feels cruel to rub salt into the wounds, but Ayew’s goal was self-inflicted.

Down to 10 men, there is really no reason why four Ipswich players should burst ahead of the play on the counter-attack so late in the match. Doing so left gaps for Ayew and Jamie Vardy to exchange a one-two and equalise.

Kieran McKenna’s side showed a naivety in this moment that cost them dearly, although they will feel aggrieved about a 10-second spell that went against them, first Conor Chaplin going down in the box under a heavy challenge and then Kalvin Phillips receiving a second yellow for a foul.

But the fact remains - even after those decisions, Ipswich would have held on if they’d shown more restraint in the final minutes.

I don't think the ownership will be accepting of "bobbing along without actually getting up". There's a business behind this, and whilst it will have done much better than they might have envisaged, they'll only make returns in the Premier league.

Your right that promotion ends with a reward of being back to what you dislike, but promotions aren't to be sniffed at, excitement, goals, winning games etc ultimately ending up in hope that it'll be different next time.

If we do stay up - and the next 6 games are crucial - then we'll likely have a similar experience on field next season, a bit more corporate off it (increased ticket prices, season tickets, big player sales etc). See Nottingham Forest.
