Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town 23:04 - Dec 4 with 7453 viewsChurchman

Just one moment. Not a list. Just THE one that you could be transported back to for a moment in time. No explanations necessary. For me:

Behind the goal when John Wark scored the third goal at Highbury v West Brom in 1978

Lots of good ones in here but I'll add Alan Armstrong's header at home to Inter Milan in November 2001. I was in the lower north and was right in the path of the ball as it floated into the net.

Beating St Etienne away what a night , hostile atmosphere, 1-0 down …….then absolutely put them in their place 1-4 , best all round Town display I’ve ever seen .

Yep, my best moment as well

That really was ‘a moment’. Talk about let’s go mental.

Going since ‘96, but it’s Southampton last year for me. Maybe Bradford and the Reuser show in 2001 too - great atmosphere.

All good - but which single moment in time if you had to pick one?

Promotion to the Prem.

The moment the first goal went in v Huddersfield was special. it was over. We’d done it - every emotion in the book. For me more so than the Southampton game.

Barrow at home, 3 years ago yesterday. Good to get a clean sheet and a replay, thought Nsiala and Clements played well.

Either that or Wembley 2000. After all the nearly years of playoff semi final heartache, to be there to witness that promotion (and what came the following season) was sue bloody perb.

Darren Bent's winner v Sheffield United. It was just a Second Division game, ultimately inconsequential, but if the joy of going to football is in the emotions it takes you through, nothing has beaten that day and I can't imagine anything ever will. Benty's goal gave us a denouement that was way beyond perfect. I was in bits.

Completely agree, it was incredible seeing that go in. The atmosphere that afternoon seemed electric but that might be due to the volume of alcohol I consumed pre and during game. After the sending off, most of the people I was with threw the towel in and went back to Riley’s, those of us that stayed were ‘quite jolly’ when we met up with them afterwards. Took a day or two for my vocal cords to recover and a similar length of time to rid myself of the hangover.

Clearly not my single moment as a) I wasn't there and b) it wasn't Ipswich, but a moment last season that gets forgotten about a little was Leeds getting humped 4-0 at QPR that Friday in late April. That put us 1 point behind with 2 games in hand and a far inferior GD. Effectively meant 2 points from our games away to Hull and Cov would put it into our own hands on the final day, rather than potentially needing to win both if Leeds had beaten QPR. That was the result that had me believing it was there for the taking.

I remember watching thinking '1-0, great, makes the draw more likely. 2-0, that gives a 2 goal cushion for the draw. 3-0, wow draw now highly likely. 4-0 with a few minutes left, maybe QPR could even win this!'.

The moment my dad told me he had bought tickets to see Ipswich for my 10th birthday. We didn’t have much money at all and I never ever expected, but always dreamed of being able to see them. One of the best moments of my life was find out I was going.

I used to mention my dad in my blogs on here because he would take me even though he really didn’t like football. He worked incredibly long hours and he gave up his Saturdays (I’d insist on going way too long before a match would start) for me and Ipswich.

Highbury 78 was magical as a child, but for some reason Forest away in the cup 3-3 always sticks in the old memory bank.

Highbury 78- magical feeling of realisation, Wembley here we come.
Forest 3-3 - Frans heavily deflected equaliser, now those were scenes/limbs
Bolton Play off- sheer relief
Sarmiento- He's magic you know..

....I wish I could remember the Texaco cup wins against Norwich more, we dont celebrate that enough..

My glasses got knocked off and lost when that happened!

Walking into Portman Road as an 8 year old in 1970 to see my first match versus Man United. Had never experienced anything like it, the sheer numbers and noise, truly overwhelming.

Sorry I couldn't whittle it down to One!

For some reason these two trump Wembley play-off final.

You have to have a McKenna moment, this guy has been a revelation. And I hope the fans can repay him now with some unconditional support over the coming games.

Poll: What level of support are you bringing to Portman Road today?

But if you had to choose one or have both memories erased (Total Recall style without Sharon Stone), which would you choose?

I've been going since 1969 but I think it has to be the Sarmiento goal for an instance of such joy and wild abandon. It was made more special by its timing, what it meant and the fact that it looked like he'd initially fluffed the chance.

I really struggle to remember much about matches but the 3-3 remains the best football match I've witnessed, and the euphoria from the equaliser to leaving the ground has stuck with me too.

I was at university in Leeds at the time, and came down without a ticket but managed to get one in the Ipswich end either from a tout or a fellow Ipswich fan (I can't quite remember).

Been lucky following the team since 1961, so many highs that I could not pin point a special game.
But every game we win is special for me……from Rome to Moscow………Forest Green to Darlington away on a cold Tuesday night. I feel privileged to be an Ipswich supporter and just love what we have achieved over the years.
But the timing and importance of that Sarmiento goal has to be very high on that list.

2nd leg play off semi I reckon.

The FA Cup and UEFA Cup don’t feature because as I started watching us in about 76/77, I just thought that was normal lol.

The afternoon in Milan with my dad before we headed to the San Siro. We went to see some nice bits of the city, meet my cousin who then lived there, and I never expected I'd ever see Ipswich play somewhere like that in my life.
