Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town 23:04 - Dec 4 with 7451 views | Churchman | Just one moment. Not a list. Just THE one that you could be transported back to for a moment in time. No explanations necessary. For me: Behind the goal when John Wark scored the third goal at Highbury v West Brom in 1978 [Post edited 4 Dec 2024 23:15]

Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 07:29 - Dec 5 by Papillon64 | Highbury 78 was magical as a child, but for some reason Forest away in the cup 3-3 always sticks in the old memory bank. Highbury 78- magical feeling of realisation, Wembley here we come. Forest 3-3 - Frans heavily deflected equaliser, now those were scenes/limbs Bolton Play off- sheer relief Sarmiento- He's magic you know.. ....I wish I could remember the Texaco cup wins against Norwich more, we dont celebrate that enough.. |
I really struggle to remember much about matches but the 3-3 remains the best football match I've witnessed, and the euphoria from the equaliser to leaving the ground has stuck with me too.
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 09:04 - Dec 5 with 1119 views | nodge_blue | I’ve witnessed a few that people are mentioning but you still have to go some to beat Sarmiento goal v Southampton don’t you? 97 th minute. come back winner in the last seconds. A result that made me feel we might actually do this. And 27k people going absolutely nuts. My play off final experience was not as good as I felt rough from drinking before the game.

Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 09:19 - Dec 5 with 1084 views | sito | 20th May 1981, Olympic Stadium Amsterdam the moment Mick Mills raised the UEFA cup trophy above his head. As a 14 year old, who was allowed to miss some mock O Levels to attend I don't think that will be bettered. Not because it was a great game, far from it. Not because it was our most prestigious trophy, FA Cup and Division One title rank higher. But because it was the end of that special season, which for a time that night looked like it would end in severe disappointment again. That 1980/1981 side are the best to have ever worn a Town shirt and call me biased but one of the best sides to have ever played in this country. Not to have won the title that season above Villa is criminal, we were by far the better side. I can remember crying at a football match for the one and only time when Paul Power scored in extra time, at Villa Park, ending our cup final hopes. It was also Beattie's last game for us after breaking his arm in that match. So final game of the season and a last chance to actually mark it with some silverware, and for most of that 90 minutes it looked liked we were going to blow it again! The sense of relief when the final whistle was blown and that trophy hoisted wasn't just a UEFA cup win it was the culmination of a season of attrition that promised so much and came so close to delivering nothing. I am lucky to have also witnessed many of the other suggestions, FA Cup final, Play Off final and two recent promotions but for the reasons described it has to be that night in Amsterdam for me.
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 09:27 - Dec 5 with 1069 views | IPS_wich | The last 2.5 years is my favourite period being a Town fan (since 1982 for me); but when Reuser's shot hit the back of the net at Wembley as the clock ticked to 90 minutes is the single moment for me. I was with my Dad, my wife (we'd only been married 12 months), my brother and his wife - right behind the goal. Everyone around me was going berserk and I just raised my hands in the air, looked to the sky and burst into tears. I can recall the moment and the feeling like it was yesterday and still get goosebumps. So many other moments (none as good as that), but the most random one for me was a few months later I was on holiday with my wife in The Gambia and Ipswich were playing away to Liverpool in the Premiership. The hotel didn't have an internet connection to look up the score, but I was told there was one internet cafe with two computers about half a mile down the street. Now, anyone who's been to Gambia on holiday (especially 20 years ago) will know of the 'Bumster' issue they have on the streets outside the tourist hotels (100s of locals trying to sell you stuff, persuade you to jump in their taxi, trying to exchange your money, or in many cases - just basically begging). My wife was telling me there was no point heading out to find out the result, we could wait for the newpapers from the UK to arrive in a couple of days - why put myself through all of the hassle when we will have inevitably lost. But venture out I did, it took me about half an hour to get down the street and eventually find the internet cafe. I bought 10 minutes access, typed in www.twtd.co.uk, waited about two minutes for the page to load and there it was: Liverpool 0 - 1 Ipswich (Stewart). I immediately hit refresh because I didn't believe it, waited another couple of minutes and there it was. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't take any amount of cash or valuables with me because I would have certainly given it all away on the walk back to the hotel!!!
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 09:28 - Dec 5 with 1066 views | Bluespeed225 | All wonderful memories listed here , and I was lucky enough to have ben part of them, but in all this, the last 2 years, coming from the lowest ebb we've ever been at, have been some of the best. The Coventry game, while nothing was decided, made it sooo tangible that this was actually going to happen, and, as I've said to many people, I can't think of anywhere on Earth, literally on the planet, that was a happier place than when the whistle went against Huddersfield.
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 09:29 - Dec 5 with 1063 views | FrimleyBlue | Bolton Playoff away leg, the day I became the football genius everyone has seen on here. " Really don't rate Stewart, can't see why he was so much money" 2 minutes later ' Stewart sends a volley into the top left hand corner' Yeah but anyone can hit it first time ;)

Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 09:30 - Dec 5 with 1066 views | Tractor_Buck | Reuser......PREMIERSHIP! It was a superb goal, direct, powerful and a great finish under pressure from a defender and the keeper, but props must go to the commentator who encapsulated a seasons worth of struggles and dreams in two magical words. Sorry; you said no explanations necessary but it makes the hairs go up on the back of my neck every time I see it. Wonder whatever happened to the guy with the eyebrow ring that the cameras managed to pick out in an instant.

Lots here I can emphasise with, but I will go further back to the night we beat Burnley 6-2 on our way to win the First Division. Left the ground thinking that was very special.

I could second that but for the fact that my Mum wouldn't let me go because of school next day! But I remember the joy of hearing about it the following morning. [Post edited 5 Dec 2024 10:03]

Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 06:39 - Dec 5 by mikeybloo88 | Gotta be “Osborne...1-0” We’d battered Arsenal, hit the woodwork three times and I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to be our day. The relief, and euphoria, as Roger popped that in was immense. Second best moment ever was when the ref blew the final whistle. |
Oh how I would love to see that happen again so my sons and grandchildren can grasp something of the joy of that day that I have retold many times. Being at the far end away from the goal, none of us had any idea that it was Roger Osborne who had scored until we got back on the coach! The joy and relief when that goal went in was so overwhelming that this shy teenager hugged and kissed some random young lady celebrating next to me Never saw her again!

We drank before the game and after it - and paid dearly for it the following day. What a day though - I have enjoyed peoples memories of the day on here. For me the moment when Reuser’s shot crashed in to kill the game is in my top three (reprimand to self - the thread is about the top moment, not three of them!). I was in the upper tier behind the goal and had a great view of it. We went berserk.

I assumed it was Wark at the time - I too was at the other end standing in the ‘gallery’ with 20k others (what a sight). My dad had no idea, but the bloke the other side thought it was Roger. The whole day was a dream. I could quite believe I was seeing my team in the Cup Final. We played like dream too. The oddest moment was when Mills lifted the Cup. The sun caught it and all I saw of the moment was this bright gleam.
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 10:44 - Dec 5 with 887 views | DarkBrandon | I think “Reuser … Premiership” but it may actually be his goal in the semi. Beating Barnsley seemed possible, maybe probable, but beating that Bolton side seemed almost impossible. When he scored we knew.
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 10:49 - Dec 5 with 867 views | CobboldCrusty | Having started supporting Ipswich the season we last came down from the PL, I think Sarmiento v Southampton tops just about anything. Even an hour after the game my head felt like it was going to explode. Don't think I've had that in the same way any other time.
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 10:50 - Dec 5 with 864 views | surreyblue | It didn't have the same drama as the Sarmiento goal, but for me it has to be: "And it's opened the door for Burns!" "It's one-nil. It's Wes Burns. And it. Is. Beautiful" That will always be the goal that sent us up. I watched both games on TV and I've never heard a bigger roar than that moment. 22 years of pain, washed away in an instant. And because you could see it coming, everyone celebrated at the exact same moment. Goosebumps.

That was a mental day. I had no idea that the Wild West show before the game would give the local knuckle draggers so many good ideas!
Best single moment in time following Ipswich Town on 11:44 - Dec 5 with 732 views | TrumptonBlue | Darren Bent's winner v Sheffield United. It was just a Second Division game, ultimately inconsequential, but if the joy of going to football is in the emotions it takes you through, nothing has beaten that day and I can't imagine anything ever will. Benty's goal gave us a denouement that was way beyond perfect. I was in bits.
