I can't see how he doesn't come out of today without criticism, though. The subs seems incredibly late and, when they did come, initially did nothing to shore up the middle of the park.
I appreciate that Szmodics and Delap had been running on empty since about 60mins and, yes, bringing on AAH and Clarke livened things up a bit, but they should have come on far earlier, meaning that Cajuste could have come on far sooner than he did. |
His choice is stick with what he has on there, or put on sub standard players that aren’t up to it.
Shows what he thinks of the likes of AAH and Burns, he’d rather leave on players exhausted than play them.

I think this is why McKenna held back with the subs. I thought around the hour mark we needed to change the shape; that we were being overwhelmed and more was required in the centre of the park. But then we worked our way back in the game, and seemed to be holding them at bay. It was so like Palace, in the sucker punch came not necessarily against the run of play, but whilst we had been managing the game quite well. |

Plenty of people leaving the ground displeased as well. Especially at Muric and McK's subs. McK has lots of credit left though - compare that to Leicester fans wanting Cooper out and Saints fans towards Martin - plenty of the fanbase are still happy with McK although I don't know how much more it will take to see a repeat of what happened at the Valley or Bristol Rovers away again |
If you’re referring to the 2-0 at Charlton that was under McGreal before McKenna joined. The 4-4 wasn’t too bad afterwards, just disbelief really. The irony of that result is we put a central defender on for the final minutes to shore things up and conceded 2, people were critical of his subs. We didn’t today, people are critical we didn’t. We didn’t at Spurs and won the game. It’s all too easy in hindsight isn’t it.
Bristol Rovers away was 1 or 2 idiots, and worth remembering we were in L1, there was still a general frustration at being at that level and sense of entitlement. We’re in the premier league now, we’re trying to punch above our weight and McKenna is doing what he can to get a tune out of us and get us competitive, which we are being. Anyone digging him out this season needs to give their head a wobble IMO, talk about a victim of your own success. |  | | |

Someone said early on in the season. Every team in a relegation battle has a joker in hand which we don't, namely changing the manager. Every team will have no qualms about sacking the man in charge but we, rightly, will. |
Still haven't given up on us adding some key depth and experience in Jan.

Yeah, I think we recruited in positions we didn’t need to and didn’t do enough in positions we did in places. Not sure £12m on O’Shea was a necessary upgrade, £20m on Clarke when we already had Szmodics and Broadhead, Phillips in on loan and hasn’t kicked a ball in over a month. Although it’s easy to say with hindsight as there have been plenty of hits and I was excited when we signed all three at the time. [Post edited 8 Dec 2024 19:50]

McKenna is certainly not immune from criticism, for me fans are looking at the immediate rather than the objective fact that Bournemouth created more better quality chances than us throughout the game. We had improved on this for a five game spell which suggested some real improvements and hope.
But we have deservedly got nothing from the last 3 games where we've not created enough good chances but conceded plenty of them.
We could argue structure and shape as well as some discipline in transition but ultimately our starting 11 isn't really good enough let alone the 18 | | | |
