Wolves experience - miserable bar the result 10:20 - Dec 15 with 6973 viewsnick141

This is obviously secondary to the result, but it should be noted that the away pub was a miserable shambles. Bizarre to only allows fans into one pub and then only have two people behind the bar acting surprised when 1000 people turn up.

Would be a bonus if they have half decent beers too. My friend flew from Berlin for the game and when he asked if they had any local beer, they looked at him like he was a moron and said “Carling”.

Also not an important point, but makes you feel very unwelcome when every other pub has a big “home fans only” sign up.

It was telling that a policewoman’s told me that they have to shut all shops at the station after a game because fans smash everything up, so we couldn’t buy any water. It’s interesting that this doesn’t seem to happen at Ipswich.

If we hadn’t won, it would’ve been a pretty miserable away experience. Makes you appreciate the Greyhound. I hope the railway tavern is better.

Is the legroom in the away section still as bad as it was when I went there in 2008?

Yeah. It’s like playing Ryanair away.

There was a Sainsbury's just up the road from the Station ?!? Had no problem getting in the Royal London after being turned away from the Hogshead and there were 9 of us ?? You obviously don't go away enough to understand how you do it 😂😂

yeah…as we got of the coaches plod warned us that the Albert was a shambles so we gave it a swerve…

Isn't Carling brewed in Burton-On-Trent? Therefore you could argue given its not far away from Wolverhampton it is local?

The problem with Carling as a "local beer" is not the local part.

An off license just over the road from the pub (hour and a half wait we were told) refused to serve a 70 year old Ipswich fan a beer because he had an Ipswich coat on.

Never seen that before.

Painting a brighter picture, I like it up North. Wolverhampton is a small town with a big name and has fallen on hard times. I was surprised there were so few pubs. Food stalls outside were decent but they needed more staff on the bars inside.
The ground is a proper ground (West Ham being the worst I've been to) but packing us in the side is a shame - seemed like there were three singing sections as consequence. The curve on the stand did give a better view of the pitch.
I saw no animosity afterwards at the station or en-route which made a nice change to the running battles in the 70's.

You realise that geographically, Wolverhampton is as far north as Lowestoft don't you?

It is however North of Watford Gap, North of the Tees-Exe line and people from there speak proper funny.

I can’t believe there would be many better away days than Ipswich.

I get jealous of the railway every time I walk past it. Cracking outdoor space right on the river with an outside bar and a DJ. Literally outside the station and five mins to the ground.

I’ve personally never been to better away. Maybe the old Charlton pub and Peterborough is decent,

Word to the wise....

.....Avoid pubs dedicated or seemingly dedicated to away fans only.

What else would you expect, it's hard enough trying to find a decent pub in Wolverhampton on valentines night, let alone a pub dedicated to away fans on a Saturday.

Travel the country to watch Town, to pick to go in the away pub and sing tractor boys gonna make some noise…

What a day out.

We’ll be good again... one day
