Troy Parrott 12:52 - Dec 18 with 3741 views | Nutkins_Return | Worth another look? Always felt there was a player and wondered whether we might look at him in the summer as had an excellent season last year. Seems to have kicked on again this year and prolific record. Fits the model (age and stylistically). Seems to have matured physically and added goals to game. K ows the club. I imagine somewhere around £12-15 million might get him.

Troy Parrott on 13:23 - Dec 18 with 3593 views | bsw72 | No sure - he's signed with AZ on a permanent basis, plus while he has scored 9 goals in 16 games, he got 4 in one game so has 5 goals in 15 games in the Dutch league. I think we need someone more experienced, ideally on loan if you consider we have Delap and Hurst already - we need someone to support those through this season (and injuries) while we understand where we are come the end of season.

Troy Parrott on 13:27 - Dec 18 with 3571 views | RobTheMonk | I think he'd struggle in the Prem at present. Four of his goals this season have come in a 9-1 freak result. If you take that out of the equation then his goalscoring record looks a bit more mediocre. Last season was a goal here and there, but certainly not prolific. I think he's going to be a late bloomer and being in the Dutch league is probably doing him the world of good. On a side note, my one to watch at the start of the season was Sem Steijn of FC Twente who is currently the top scorer in the Erdevisie and has four assists (but we have too many players in his position - attacking mid).

Not sure he fits in character-wise either.

Any relation to the potential manager that was discussed back in 2018-10?

You'd like to think he's somewhat changed his attitude given he's done quite well out in Holland, but yes, Cook telling him (and I can't remember the other player) that they were no longer welcome wasn't a great look!

It's his son! Good little player. Kind of like a mix between Chappers and Frankie De Jong.

That's an interesting side note you would have more Intel on. Think on the above points about goals his record is still good and we have to be careful to weight too much on goals. Hirst and Delap have never really been prolific but they score goals and do a lot more than that. Parrott sort of fits that mould to a good degree. Gets assists and even been happy to play second fiddle with lots of assists to Twine I remember. He does cover ground on the field. If his attitude was off and no improved then I'd steal clear. Not sure on that. Something seems to have clicked for him.

One assist this season so far. Four last season. Sorry, but these numbers are not suggesting a yay from me.

You could do with a more recent example if you want to disprove their point!

10 goals 2 Assists this season so far. 17 goals 5 Assists last season. I'd say they are good numbers. Like I say Hirst's numbers classic case of numbers not telling the full story. Thing that would put me off more is Phil's suggestion on attitude. But that can be looked into. There are other strikers I'd rather have but Parrott would be considerably cheaper and probably doable.

haha, fair play. van persie? no, but to stay on the arsenal front, timber is a good signing. shopping in the eredivisie is risky, not just for the premiership. real madrid tried it a while back with sneijder, huntelaar, drenthe, robben and van der vaart, none of whom really succeeded there - but obviously robben and sneijder ripped it up elsewhere. spurs did better when prising eriksen, vertonghen and alderweireld, but i think it's noteworthy that none of the great ajax team from a while back (ziyech, de ligt, de jong, van der beek, onana) have ever really gone to greater things. maybe it's the system that makes the most of their talent? who knows.

Troy Parrott on 11:53 - Dec 19 with 1685 views | jayessess | We had him as an 18-year-old in one of our worst ever teams and under two of our worst ever managers, so I'd say his first stint with us is about as relevant as Kieffer Moore's first one was last season. Do think we could use another non-striker forward with more physical presence. Everyone we have playing behind Delap and Hirst is a bit small and it shows when we play sides like Everton, Palace, Forest. [Post edited 19 Dec 2024 15:53]

Re the physical presence idea, I wonder if there have been other prolific goalscorers created out of erstwhile full backs or centre backs such as was the case with Malcolm Macdonald. I had in mind that, for us, Harry Clarke could be a candidate, or, given his superior touch, perhaps even Wolfie? I know Macdonald is probably the exception that proves the rule, and the modern game pinpoints specialism to a greater extent than was once the case, but I wonder if McK has ever cast his eye around the current squad and conjectured?

Can't think of too many recent examples of players who've played a decent amount of professional football as a defender but made most of their career as a forward. Gareth Bale is the only 21st century player that springs to mind.

Troy Parrott on 17:01 - Dec 19 with 1332 views | BloomBlue | Parrot is one of those players where the hype hit his career. Too many were bigging up Parrott, and once he had a bad season, too many wanted to kick him. You see it often these days, a player is successful early on and immediately they have a below standard season, people kick them. Its as if they want to say... told you he wouldn't make it. Even though every footballer has a below standard season when young, in their career

He's talked about it and felt the weight of it and constantly in his head trying to live up to it. He's moved around and stopped thinking that way. Basically he's relaxed (mentally) about it. Had a good last 18 months. People forget how young he still is. We're going into and interesting window. Don't think we can go crazy and risk a lot.
