Referee / VAR decisions 21:24 - Jan 5 with 1915 viewsibbleobble

Are we all agreed they got the major decisions right? All three were pens and Davis was only worthy of a yellow as Greaves was on the cover?

Yes.

But the referee should’ve been awarding that first penalty in real time. Shocking. VAR covers up these mistakes!

Don't understand why VAR needed the ref to look at the screen. Having seen the replay, it was a blatant penalty. At the time, I thought Wilson had tripped over his own feet, had no idea Morsy had stuck out his leg

Ref was quite a way away and O'Shea was running across his field of view so I think there are reasons why he doesn't give it. Would be interesting to hear the comms between him and the VAR. Think that's exactly what VAR is there to do - spot a clear and obvious error and get the right decision.

VAR cannot make a decision to award a penalty, that can only be done by the match official. VAR’s job is to advise the ref that they need to review and confirm they are happy to change their decision.

He was happy enough to give then a free kick whilst watching Cairney fall over his own feet 5 yards away from him. In terms of the OP, all the big decisions were correct but his officiating throughout was really really poor.

He had a poor game but there were two players between him and Morsy. He can't give what he can't see.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

All major decisions correct, never a red card for me and 3 penalties.

He should have at least booked Wilson for his reaction to not getting the penalty at first though, I don’t care if he was right you can’t let a player have a go at you like that. I don’t understand why referees don’t just book players for it.

Felt he gave them some soft free kicks around their own box too but otherwise one of the better refs we’ve had.

Wilson should have been booked for very obvious dissent.

The only decision I would query is the morsy penalty . Not the tackle as that was just stupid From Sam but I thought the rules clearly state that the game should be stopped for a clear head injury, the wolves player was on his back - potentially looking out cold from a kick to the face. Yet he played on

Why would a Wolves player be on the pitch in a match between Fulham and Ipswich?

Yes, but if I forget for one moment that Silva is a pr*ck I think we were a bit fortunate that Davis wasn't sent off.

I've just watched MOTD and a Liverpool player was sent off against Fulham (at Anfield) this season for a similar foul but a lesser goalscoring opportunity.

It would have been an interesting decision if they looked at their second penalty run up where it very much looked like Jimenez stopped his runup for a split second...

Pretty sure you're allowed to pause during a run up now?

But which was the correct decision?

Back to the Wilson dissent point, does that get looked at retrospectively? From a blue point of view I hope not because he is a very good player for them and we no longer have to play them in the league, but from the point of view of the game, I would throw the book at him - no excuse.

Yes.

"the player taking the penalty kick or a team-mate offends:

feinting to kick the ball once the kicker has completed the run-up (feinting in the run-up is permitted); the referee cautions the kicker "
