At only 31, if JD can stay fit Chesterfield are getting one helluva player.

He was absolutely flamin' superb in that 21-22 season, and the partnership with Burns (including the handshake/bow celebration) was an absolute joy to behold.

I wish all of our departing players all the very best, but there's something special about JD and his story here which makes me especially keen that this move works our brilliantly for him.

Really feel for the guy, because on his day I'd say he's a better RB than Harry Clarke!
Definitely one of the town ex-players I'll keep an eye on.

I love JD for what he did here, and how much he had to get through just to achieve that, but I think he would have got shown up in the Championship a bit had he not been injured at the start of last season. He wasn't good enough on the ball to play as we wanted to at that level.

Glad he's finally got a club. Just hope he's over his injury problems. He comes across as such a lovely guy.

My son still has a selfie with him as his lock screen!

Not his fault of course, but I do wonder if him moving on is the true end of the banter era. Arguably the most ridiculous saga for a signing that we ever had.

Going to write it out here just because I've been looking into it again and it's funny:

July 2018: sign Donacien from Accrington, but can't do it permanently because he doesn't have the correct UK work permit (despite living the UK since age 8 and playing for five English clubs before us).

October 2018: Hire Paul Lambert who has some weird bee in his bonnet about Donacien from when he managed him as a young player years before at Aston Villa.

January 3rd 2019: Ipswich make permanent signing of Donacien for £750,000, despite him not being part of the manager's plans. Accrington, having committed to build a new stand with the money from the Kayden Jackson sale earlier in that season, are said to be looking to build a new set of changing rooms with the Donacien fee.

January 5th 2019: Accrington 1-0 Ipswich in the FA Cup third round. Ipswich continue an FA Cup losing streak of 9 seasons.

January 18th 2019: Janoi Donacien joins Accrington on loan (presumably surprised by the nice new surroundings) and promptly makes his debut in the FA Cup 4th round.

That’s a mad 6 months isn’t it.

The work permit thing still baffles me.

You missed one thing on that loan back to Accrington in that he ended up playing in some ridiculously low grade match - Lancashire Cup maybe - which I think was available to watch on Youtube one weekday afternoon.

Also look at how rampant we were in the second half of that league 1 campaign when Harry Clarke came in in the January.

Brilliant servant to the club. Saying goodbye to favourites is hard isn't it? The price of success.

Good luck JD. Congrats Chesterfield fans, a bit part of the jigsaw. Surprised he is going to league two.

Truly impaired.

Under KM I don’t think he was ever beaten when someone went one on one with him… apart from maybe QPR away. Excellent L1 full back.

Nooooo, say it ain’t so. Was holding out hope for a cheeky end of season extension for nostalgia.

Loved the bloke - much better going forward than expected - lots of assists and some great link-up play with Burns and Celina.

Will be very much missed by me. Glad he got a couple of medals with us.

Maybe a case of the Paul Cook connection (see also Morsy and Chaplin) being a stronger draw than playing at, say, L1 level?

PC managed to get some of his best football out of him at times, so perhaps he sees him as the ideal manager to get him back to his best?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I hope the club do a proper send-off when it's all confirmed. None of this "wish him well" - no doubt there's enough footage of him in the media library they should be able to do at least a 30s vid I've have thought.

As much as we now have better defenders in the building, he's one of the best one-on-one defenders I've seen in a Town shirt.

Must give him a good send off. Maybe a song or two on Sunday, albeit he probably won't be there.

Hope we get Chesterfield in a Cup some time and can give him a proper thank you. Another of the gang that started our journey that we must not forget.
