Matt Bloomfield is the new Luton boss on 13:02 - Jan 14 with 4013 views | _clive_baker_ | Can't really blame him for 'cashing his chips' off the back of a good season with Wycombe so far, but also do feel for the WW fans. Such a sucker punch for them.
Matt Bloomfield is the new Luton boss on 13:07 - Jan 14 with 3947 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | Rough couple of weeks for Wycombe. Morley recalled to Bolton after he's stood out for them, Bloomfield away to Luton. Wouldn't surprise me to see the lad Kone move up a level - possibly Boro if Latte Lath moves on. We might feel that Cam Humphreys needs exposure in the Championship and Luton could be a good fit for him now. Similar to Villa wanting Louie Barry to play at a higher level in the second half of this season.

Was hoping Wycombe would threaten the Birmingham/Wrexham axis of evil, but suspect they’ll be wobbling now.

A fair amount of interference from above more than hinted at it in Phil's article here: Former Blue Mitchell Leaves Wycombe 3rd Nov 2024 10:10Former Town full-back and long-serving academy staff member Scott Mitchell has been surprisingly axed from his head of player recruitment role at high-flying Wycombe Wanderers, despite having brought in a number of this season’s top performers, including Blues loanee Cameron Humphreys. 3

Would be be allowed to do that under the current league rules? Is he allowed to play for another club?

2 clubs per season, isn't it? Did he play for us before he went out on loan? 4-5 months is a long time ago now, ha!

Tough ask to keep Birmingham, Wrexham and I'd include Huddersfield out of the top 2. It depends who Wycombe can get in though. It'll be interesting to see what they do next but I think they'll do well to keep hold of Kone this window.

Wycombe are flying, on and off the pitch, with a properly invested owner, deep pockets, a fabulous new training ground at Harlington, the start of a long-term youth-oriented development plan and a squad with decent strength and depth. Sounds awful to me!

An owner who didn’t appoint him, who has put his own football men in place where his were - that’s not easy conditions to manage under so getting out whilst stock high is a good idea. Will see how their recruitment goes this window but it will do well to be as successful has it has been under Scott Mitchell

Indeed, I'm sure Matt B would have been up for staying to the end of the season but for the interference from above. Was only a matter of time really after Scott's axing.

That's as maybe, but there's literally no hint of it down here at all. All the noises coming out of the club have been relentlessly positive, including the tweet from the club confirming his departure. My take on it is there's no smoke and no fire.

The position in the table h can change quickly. It doesn’t matter how much money they have; if the new owners are making bad decisions, it’ll end in tears (as we well know ourselves).

I’m local to Wycombe also. The club aren’t going to post anything like that, why would they? Check the Gasroom forum. Plenty of fans are getting disgruntled with the way Matt has been put in this position. The only positive noises that have come out about the club are around the academy. Check out the pitiful statement the club posted today about Bloomfield leaving and Rice and the club haven’t once mentioned in the interviews about how well the manager has been doing this year. Lots going on. Bloomfield got them in that position despite them…. [Post edited 14 Jan 23:11]

I do wonder if Bloomfield would have stayed had the club been able to keep Taylor and, especially, Morley. Even with Humphreys there, they've been two key players in their promotion push. They've brought in Sonny Bradley to replace Taylor but still a big ask. Phil - do you know if we have a recall option on Humphreys?

I don’t think so. According to a journo he interviewed for the Millwall job before Christmas and pulled out. As Phil has said Mitchell was sacked. For what appears to be because he was Bloomfield’s man having the read the Gasroom forum. He can be recalled.

My feeling is that players can ALWAYS be recalled, and that 'season-long loan' tag is to get the fans of the loaning club to get behind the player. Colchester have lost 'season-long' loans both this Jan. and last. Last year one was recalled by Luton and sent to a higher league. Another was recalled by Arsenal because he was getting no game time... and then showed up on the Arsenal bench! This year Forest recalled a player and sold him to Dundee. All three had been 'season-long loans', but in no instance did Colchester sound miffed at the turn of events.
