Ben Doak - KOA Podcast… 20:50 - Jan 17 with 7745 views | Kieran_Knows | … Stuart Watson mentions that Town still very much interested in Doak and that we’re at the stage of rather than making incremental bids, it’s a case of ‘who blinks first’, with Town asking Liverpool to name their price - which they haven’t yet done. Wonder if we go big for Doak and whoever it may be, a striker on loan for the rest of the season.

Ben Doak - KOA Podcast… on 20:55 - Jan 17 with 6577 views | gainsboroughblue | KM knows best and everything but are we not in danger of overdoing it on the young attacking midfielder/wide man front? We're in a relegation scrap. I think we need to be adding some steel as well, not to mention that elusive third option up top if/when we get an injury/suspension to Hirst/Delap.

I really don't know how to respond to that, but if Doak is as good as people say he is, then I'd be overjoyed if we can persuade Liverpool to sell.

...in this league. If we are gonna spunk £20m on him, it is purely for potential longer term financial gain. I'd rather we spunk the money on a decent CF.

OK, if it's an either/or then yes. Obviously I'm hoping for both.
Ben Doak - KOA Podcast… on 21:14 - Jan 17 with 6230 views | Stenvict | It seems like the faith in some of the players that got us to the PL is disappearing, when players like Broadhead, Chaplin, Burgess etc. have been more than good enough recently. If anything, we need experienced PL players, not raw talent.

Are you suggesting that McKenna has been told the type of profile he has to sign? Personally don't see think that's what is going on and can't see McKenna agreeing to that - if anything the signings are being made to keep McKenna happy.

No need to apologise Just curious as to why you have an opinion on one thing but refuse to give one on another. Especially when you feel so strongly about it
Ben Doak - KOA Podcast… on 22:07 - Jan 17 with 5354 views | Exiled2Surrey | I would love this to happen We need six fully fit people to go in those roles, currently we have Broady, Wes, Hutch (just about), Billy Jean, Johnson and Jack Clarke, with Sammy and Chappers on the treatment table - and this guy is meant to be mustard... we are not accelerating at the end of games, surely this will help with our lack of sprint finish?

Does feel like we’re assembling a Championship All Stars squad. Which I guess makes sense in some ways. If we don’t sign a striker in this window our lack of intent will be clear.

I don’t think it’ll be lack of intent but rather lack of options. According to the BBC transfers page there has been 8 transfers total to sides in the Premier League this January, and only two of them have been forward players (Philogene to us and Malen to Villa). Pretty much the entire bottom half and some of the top half are after central strikers right now, and it’s not like we are missing out on loads of them. FWIW, I think we will end up with someone in but I think it will be an AAH upgrade rather than a Delap/Hirst one. Just seems difficult to do the latter for anything like fair value in this window.

I think the only value to be had on that front is by going abroad, and history would suggest that’s not our strong point. Plus it could take a player longer time to adapt (speed of game, language and culture) so might take a few months to get going… which we don’t have the luxury of!

It’s a fair point that hardly any deals are happening yet. Strange window so far. An upgrade on AAH is exactly what we need. Must be someone out there in the 3m -5m range worth having a punt on.

It might also be they’d prefer to do the deal after we play them.

That's a hard sell though. "Come in and be 3rd choice striker". The sort of player that is going to be happy with that is unlikely to be one that is going to make much impact for us. We need someone that is at Hirst's kind of level at a minimum or someone that can really push Hirst at least. Otherwise it's pointless. I think it is going to be very hard to get a deal done for someone though. You look around the PL and Ferguson looks like the only one that may move. Latte Lath the pick of the Championship but looks like he is off to the US. Not even many options at that level you'd back to make the step up. [Post edited 18 Jan 12:56]

Are you really suggesting that it's going to be hard to find someone in between the levels of Hirst/Delap and Al Hamadi?

I'm suggesting it is going to be hard to find someone 'decent' by PL standards that is happy to come in as obvious third choice and barely play, yes.

Is it an obvious 3rd choice though? Wasn't there talk of Delap being signed to play wide right? So with a 3rd decent number 9 option, that would maybe allow that type of flexibility.

To add to this, I guess the question is, if Delap picked up an injury that kept him out for a couple of months, would we be happy with Hirst leading the line for that period as our main man? I really like George, but I wouldn't be even before you factor in his own injury record.
