I’m becoming more worried about Delap 22:13 - Jan 20 with 6196 viewsNeverSayDie

Chelsea and Spurs just won’t go away and with Spurs injury to Solanke, they’ll be even more desperate for a striker.

The bottom line on this one, from an ITFC perspective, is whilst we would obviously love to keep him, if a decent offer comes in for him (£35 million+) I suspect we will take the money. However, if he is allowed to leave near window end, giving us no chance to replace, we are dead in the water and that’s the choice really isn’t it? Take the money, or keep Delap and a chance of survival, I think our resolve is going to be seriously tested soon and it really is a tough call, it would present a massive profit in a very short space of time, but we’d effectively be accepting relegation and giving up a shot at a potential windfall of anywhere up to a further £160 million.

Literally everywhere you look, it’s constant chatter on Delap, we know people have been in touch with his agent several times, how long before a serious offer is tabled?

No way would we take £35m.

It would condemn us to relegation.

He won't be sold in Jan.

I doubt even a buy back clause is operable this month.

£35 million is a bit on the low end

Selling Delap would effectively relegate us.

The club won’t do that.

That’s a £20 million profit in the blink of an eye and given our league position, lack of squad depth and apparent difficulty signing the players we need, I can’t see us not giving that sort of offer very serious consideration. At the end of the day, we are a business, owned by business people and this would be a really difficult one to call IMO.

Not a chance we'd take £35million. We'd be relegated without him and the Premier League is worth £100million to us.

£20m is peanuts compared to staying up.

We're not cut adrift by 12 points. We still have a chance to stay up. No way the club sells for £35m. He will be worth that in the summer even if we go down.

Truly impaired.

I'm more concerned that he's only scored 2 goals since 10th November, both of which were penalties.

In the last two games he's barely had a sniff of the ball.

I hope we don’t, but if the bid is £40 million? At what point do we take the money, or don’t we? Every player has a price.

What makes you think his value will drop by the summer window?

This is not a difficult call in the slightest. Not even close.

£20m transfer profit instead of the £100m+ we'd get from staying in the Prem would not be a good deal.

The business people in charge of Town have not shown themselves susceptible to taking a fast buck when it would damage the club and their long-term goals.

It’s hard to score goals when the rest of the team is camped deep in its own half. No service = no goals.

He has shown enough in a poor team to be attractive to the big boys. There’s a lot to his game and at his age a ton of potential.

I’m sure clubs will try and mug us off for him for chump change. Why wouldn’t you? But if they want a player like that I’d say £60m to a more realistic £100m and not before the season’s end. We are not in fire sale territory like 2002.

Who else is out there? Chelsea want £65m for Nkunku. I’ve seen him. Not fit to lace Delap’s boots and on the bench tonight. That gives some idea of striker relative values these days.

I dont want to be rude NSD but that piat is almost Frimmeresk! Utter nonsense! All the reasons you give as possible reasons we might sell are actually reasons we won't sell!

Lack of squad depth - so we sell our best player!
Relegation threatened - so we sell our best player!
Can't buy transfer targets - so let's sell our best player!

Yep, makes sense to me!

West Ham are already offer £60 million for Dhuran. You think the most hyped up young English CF right now is getting let go for £35 million. Bizarre. Dhuran won't go either but we would certainly also be turning down £60 million. Fact it is this will be a hugely inflated Jan for strikers hence I don't like our chances of getting one. £80 million we would listen...even then it will cost us half that minimum to get a capable replacement. Wed have to have Evan Ferguson lined up and ready on loan

Even if we went down, I think we'd be able to at least sell him for that, if not more.

I would say it would have to take a obscene bid of about £80m+ for us to even consider it.

I have thick skin, no offence taken and if I’m being honest, I have no idea what “piat” means, I’m hoping it’s a misspelling, otherwise I’m going to feel silly not knowing the meaning🙃 If you look at this purely as a financial transaction, sale of an asset, it makes a lot of sense to realise the profit. There is a “chance” we stay up, but objectively, that chance is very slim and the percentages move against us each game. Everton’s performance v Spurs suggests a possible resurgence under Moyes and Wolves, despite their lowly position and struggles, do have a better squad than us, are they too likely to turn a corner? I don’t know the answer to that, but what we do know, is that we are performing to the best of our ability and seemingly don’t have much more to give with the current squad, unlike other teams that seem to just need to discover some confidence to step up a gear, squad depth and quality come to the fore in the end. A look at the table and our remaining games, vs points and results achieved to date, at best, puts us in a 2 horse survival race with Wolves, a 50/50 gamble and business people do not generally like those odds, or to gamble with no “edge”. The opportunity to recover a huge chunk of what we’ve spent, on just one player, in a very short space of time, may be too much of an opportunity to ignore.

An injury to Delap and that profit vanishes, along with any hope of survival, can the board afford to not take the opportunity if a hefty bid is presented? Would the Directors be remiss in their duties to the company and the future of the club, if they did not seriously consider an offer?

What on earth about this ownership - after the tens and tens of millions they’ve invested - makes you think they’d want to cash in with 10 days left of the window being open and condemn us to certain relegation?

The financial loss of relegation is circa £60m in the first season, perhaps more given the new broadcasting deal.

Man City have a sell-on clause of 20%.

There's little profit to be earned currently from our other signings (no disrespect intended towards these fellas!).

£35m would perhaps buy one leg. Financially speaking, we can't afford to sell him so far below market rate providing we have a choice.

OP is a joker. Forget about the 100m for staying up. We'll just pass up on the other 50m extra he's worth lol. "Because they are businessmen"
