Just how lazy are you? on 10:34 - Jan 31 with 1684 views | Zx1988 | The BBC seems to have really got the bit between its teeth in reporting on this tripe. There was the Tory Peer (who definitely doesn't have investments in offices...) the other week, Lord Sugar yesterday, and Philp today. Other than a small piece on 'what do the workers think', there's been very little balanced reporting on the matter.

I've tired to automate/template as much of what I can do as possible plus getting together a knowledge base to lean back on. Put in the hard work when you have to so you can go easy when it's quieter.

I spend a fair chunk of any 'flat' working time doing bedside education to try and improve people's knowledge and recognition of patient deterioration so I don't have to turn out to every single call and do it all....

Here are the main points from the BBC page: Chris Philp’s Comments: Conservative shadow home secretary Chris Philp emphasized the need for a stronger work ethic in the UK to compete globally, citing nine million working-age adults not in employment. Political Reactions: Philp’s comments were criticized by opponents, including the Liberal Democrats and Labour, who accused him of hypocrisy and deflecting blame for past economic failures. Philp’s Career and Background: Philp discussed his career, including his time under Liz Truss and his early work experiences, which he believes instilled a strong work ethic. Economic Inactivity: Nearly three million of the nine million economically inactive people are not working due to health issues, with projections indicating this number could rise. Personal Anecdote: Philp shared a personal story about his prematurely born twins, highlighting a challenging period in his life. If you need more details on any specific point, feel free to ask! Just how lazy are you? on 12:36 - Jan 31 with 957 views | J2BLUE | If you look at the stats for this number there are plenty of students, sick people and carers so it's not like people are saying they just can't be bothered. Even some retired people are o there. If people can afford to fund themselves without working (retired/people living off savings/investments) or they are working as carers, studying or are ill then people like this need to fook right off. If I had a few million in the bank I would quit work tomorrow.

You raise good points and most of the underlying causes go back to the last 14 years of incompetence - we have a larger ratio of people off long term sick than many of our European peers. This can be traced back to the dreadful state they’ve left the healthcare system in, particularly mental health I wrote in another thread of having to turn to private GPs due to inability of the NHS to cope with the explosion of, and aging of our population (it’s not only elderly using the NHS). Other people can’t afford that luxury. Simply - better healthcare would get many long time sick back to work (I had hazard a guess 99%+ would rather be working. So a complete own goal by the Tories. - we have rubbish productivity, and that’s due to their failure to upskill the economy and provide quality jobs. We can’t be a nation of shopkeepers and gig workers. That’s not a dig at those particular sectors, rather failure to diversify our economy and create high skilled jobs. Focusing totally on the tertiary sector also leaves us particularly vulnerable to boom and bust, as well as price shocks.

Agree. I think we also need much more investment in mental health. It's very clear that the world does not work for a lot of people. That's why it pisses me off that there is so much pushback to working from home and the 4 day week despite most businesses finding productivity either went up or stayed the same. We really need a big reset of how we think. Labour seem to be sitting on their hands as big business after big business call their workers back to the office.
