Is going to be watching us lose Delap for a fraction of his worth and then tear it up in the Premier League when he doesn't have to feed on scraps.

I just have visions of Newcastle flogging Isak to Arsenal for billions, then getting Delap for a song, who promptly destroys the league.

What gives you that impression? Ashton has stated multiple times it will take a No with lots of zeros to get Delap!

Why would we lose Delap for a fraction of his worth?

Why are we going to flog him for a fraction of his worth?

That would only happen if one team wanted him and wouldn't pay our asking price. I think it's pretty clear he's going to have plenty of PL suiters ...

Spurs, United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Fulham, Villa, Brentford, West Ham, Everton all likely to be in the market for forwards.

This is going to come as a horrible surprise to loads of people on here, not least of all you, that relegated clubs tend to lose bright starlets for less than they would otherwise have been able to command had they stayed up.

It's a fairly universal constant in football at any professional level, anywhere on earth.

You think Delap isn't going to agitate for a move if we go down?

He'll just fancy another round in the Championship and want to stay on Suffolk because he likes the big Tesco down Copdock?

Yes, we'll likely get 40m and buy two left wingers.

I don'k think Delap is as good as Isak and would put their value at £80 million for Delap and £125 million for Isak.

I think most acknowledge that, for a fraction of the cost though?

Delap will be one of the most sought after players across the entire PL this summer.... He will of course want the move & Ashton will sell him to the club that pays the fee that we want.

Unless City have a buy back clause for say 35 millon then they sell on for a profit.

Not this again🙄why on earth would Ashton agree any price for a buy back? If we keep him for 3 yrs his price will be way in excess of that! The buy back will mean citeeh will have to match any price on his head and they get first refusal, that is even if Delap wants to go back there.

Oh he won’t stay, but I don’t see why his value should plummet. We will be looking for somewhere between double and treble what we paid for him I’d have thought. Maybe higher.

Romeo Lavia seems a similar example. Sold from Man City’s reserves to Southampton, for £10m, plus add-ons. One season in the PL. They go down and he’s sold to Chelsea for £53m.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rom%C3%A9o_Lavia

We are going to be in for fortunate position that lots of teams will want to buy him, so we won’t be being held to ransom.

It also leads to a bidding war scenario with the likes of Spurs, United and Chelsea I suspect, particularly likely to want him

If Villa sells Watkins, that's another side who might be after him

If Bellvue Blue is right with the number of clubs after him , i think your valuation would be close to the mark .

Parting gift from McKenna when he takes over at Spurs, he tells Levy to pay £100m for Delap

Poll: What will be announced first?

We'll get good money for him in the summer whatever happens. We'll get a bit less than if in the Prem but it won't be a huge discounted price. I still think we would be looking at £50-60 million. That will take a huge load off in terms of needing to sell further.

The bigger challenge will be where players are wanted and we don't want to sell and trying to persuade them to give us a year to get back up.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

Pretty much that was what happened at Leeds last season only for them to fall apart. Gnoto, Rutter, Summerville and Piroe tore up the Championship only for them to implode at the last hurdle. I don't even think our current forward line has the quality and finishing of Leeds last season. Will Delap fancy another year in the Championship with us?

It will be for a fee less than the fan base are banding around. See also Leif Davis who many were crying out for an England cap not too long ago

Don’t think being in the championship will have any effect on his value, why would it ?

He will leave wether we stay up or not, but we will be getting a decent fee for him.

The only Muff in Town.

...my humble opinion is that there may not be many takers as Liam is still at the development stage. Heading is poor and is a bit blinkered with passing to team mates as proven Saturday. Currently for me, George Hirst , (fit) is the more team/complete player.

Delap will undoubtedly be off in the Summer, even if we do manage to stay up. He is one of the most coveted players in the country (Europe?) right now, because of his profile & potential. Every major side, bar Man City, Forest & maybe Newcastle while Isak remains, are badly in need of a new centre forward at the moment - Arsenal, Liverpool to replace Nunez, Man Utd, Aston Villa, Spurs & certainly Chelsea.
Delap is not yet 22, but has shown that he can score regularly in the PL, bully top defenders & show no fear when facing goalkeepers in a one v one. There is every chance, especially with Solanke & Watkins picking up injuries, that he will be in Tuchel's first squad, and even get to make his full England debut next month, which is bound to add another £10m to his value.
So unless there is a prescribed value attacked to the buy back clause City included in his contract, and none of us know for sure, there is unlikely to be any significant reduction in the fee that'll be required to sign him should we go down; demand will be high regardless.
It's not like when we went down last time, when ITV Digital collapsed & we were totally exposed financially, meaning there had to be a firesale, and Charlton picked up some of our best players for a song.

Even without relegation, that will be our role in the Premier League.

We are a 'feeder club' who will need to sell to buy within PSR and we will always lose players to the bigger clubs.

We did before (albeit we were scammed on value) and we will again. I just have more faith in Ashton getting proper value for the players.
