Find me a happy destination... 22:44 - Feb 4 with 3481 views | redrickstuhaart | Life is going to be a bit different this year. More time to do stuff for me and I intend to use it well and do some trips. I will be heading to Hay on Wye which is a wonderful place to sit around, buy books, and visit a nice pub or two. And if the weather is ok, perhaps toddle up a mountain. One of the places I am at my most content. I would do an Ipswich trip with an evening in the Briarbank and Salthouse. But I wont be able to get a ticket for a game so that option isnt on this year. I will definitely have a few days in Prague. The finest cold beer. Unusual food, beautiful clean safe city etc etc. Love it there. I was thinking of Bruges but it seems a pain to get to. Any interesting suggestions? Nothing too extravagant. Looking at long weekends, short break type stuff. UK is fine too- but ther eneeds to be stuff to do / visit and good hostelries...
Find me a happy destination... on 14:42 - Feb 5 with 859 views | ArnoldMoorhen | Bordeaux: go and stay in a Chateaux. Because you can! And enjoy a tour of the vineyard and sampling their wine. Beautiful city. Lovely wide streets. Stunning architecture. If you've been there and liked it try Toulouse. Valencia: a beautiful city, with long beaches and swish harbours. The wider region was hit very hard by the flooding towards the end of last year, so they really need the tourist cash. If you have been there and liked it try Murcia or Cartagena, both underrated gems. Carcassonne: like something out of a fairy tale. Or a board game! Think Warwick Castle times 10. With a city inside. And a pretty stunning Napoleonic era city outside the walls, too. If you've been there and liked it try taking your car on the overnight ferry to St Malo, and nearby Dinan, Mont St Michel and Bayeux. With bonus Normandy landing beaches for history from a different era. San Sebastian: the top food destination in Europe. Amazing pinxtos (tapas) culture in an incredibly condensed area. Beaches. And one of the few languages on earth which is completely devoid of any roots in neighbouring languages. If you've been there and liked it try Copenhagen, for another food Mecca, with a similarly impenetrable language! In the UK: Durham and York (one night each). Or Norwich, and do a brewery and pub tour. Or go to Stratford-upon-Avon if one of the half decent Shakespeare plays is on.

Carcassonne is a good shout, if you can find a nice cheap flight with Ryanair. Stay a couple of extra days only an hour from Mediterranean coast

On the air-freshner shelf in the supermarket? Just along from the Airwick?
Find me a happy destination... on 15:30 - Feb 5 with 770 views | BloomBlue | The Outer Hebrides, wonderful area for wildlife and the scenery I can recommend Isle of Harris and the Isle of Lewis, even more so if you enjoy the beach. Hard to find better beaches anywhere else in the UK.

They have sleep stories, and absolutely loads are on travel, and interesting places in the world. The most beautiful beaches in the World, but don't forget your wetsuit if you fancy a dip in the water.

I can vouch for this - fell in love with the place last summer. Lake Bled has to be one of the most beautiful spots on the planet.

Find me a happy destination... on 22:48 - Feb 4 by JakeITFC | I did Eurostar to Bruges (via Brussels) and it was simple enough. Beautiful place though and fits all of your criteria so would recommend doing it. Of the away days done this season I quite liked Brighton as a spot to go back to - some quirky pubs, arty scene and obviously a nice beach. Did help that it was a sunny day but could have a lovely time there. |
Bruges is lovely. In a similar vein, Lille is pleasant enough for a weekend. Or Cologne. You can do a lot worse than keeping an eye open for Eurostar deals and going to pretty much any of their mainland Europe destinations. It’s so easy.
