The last week of the window he was pushing to move to us and I think had we have beaten them last weekend, we’d have been able to get the deal over the line. Instead, it gave them a little glimmer of hope in terms of staying up and it would’ve been a bad look selling someone to another relegation rival. |  |

Given McKenna’s reputation of improving players, I think he would take Downes to another level. McKenna clearly thinks so too as that’s at least 2 windows we’ve tried to sign him now. | |

It feels that one of Downes's biggest problems is how he was towards the end. He didn't get his Palace moved and he sulked. As much as I hate to see that in a player (especially one who is a local lad, albeit a Hammers fan iirc) looking back, I don't really blame him. We were in a rubbish position, playing dire football and the lad's potential was much greater than the sh!te we had to offer.
Maybe having lived in Swansea, London and Southampton, he has come to the realisation that Suffolk is a beautiful place to live. I left Suffolk nearly 25 years ago and I am always trying to find a way to move back home. It will happen to me, even if it's in retirement. | |

I would still take Downes 100%. He's not a bad kid at all but he wears his heart on his sleeve and it gets him in a bit of trouble. It doesn't reflect well but he's only just 26 and will learn from these things. He would be such a natural fit as a longer term replacement for Morsy. | |
