When we said we’d take 17th at the start of the season I’m not sure many of us realised what we were saying then! Did we realise it would be such a slog and we’d actually struggle as much as we have?
I’ll confess I underestimated the gap between the Championship and the Prem - the speed of play, the sheer physical size and strength of so many of the players, etc has been a revelation.
So to think that at this stage of the season our survival is still in our hands is really quite an achievement. Will we do it? I’ve no idea! I hope more than expect that we will, but whatever happens we’ve done OK this season and have set ourselves well to have a right good crack at whatever league we’re in next season.

Not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion. Wolves are effectively three points ahead of us with GD so it’s not in our hands.
They just gave Liverpool a scare so they are playing with confidence which we don’t want.
I think wolves weren't that bad earlier in the season were unlucky in games, They've tightned there defence and have cunha, Take him out of the side I'd say we have shout, Look at there fixtures and ours I'd rather have there's, We're very much in the we have to beat either spurs or man u just to hang on in there with them, bit gloomy but there fighting to,

Unfortunately, many of the sides up here have been here a while. They have had the money and time to build reasonably strong squads. Our quick rise hasn't helped us and if we do stay up, more money will need to be spent. I think we should have brought a bit more experience over youth, but it was always going to be s struggle. I thought 17th was obtainable, but knew it would be tight. Those who posted here pre season saying we were going to finish 10th or above were totally delusional.
I didnt think we'd be above Leicester who ssemed to have a stronger squad than ours, and many with previous Prem experience. It really shows that criticism of our transfer policy, while maybe understadable given our current position, is pretty harsh and probably wrong.

Town weren't that bad earlier in the season and have been unlucky in games and with key injuries. Town have signed a goalkeeper that looks like a real upgrade on what we have had and have Delap and Hirst. Take both of them out of the side and we are likely down. The only differences in fixtures left are that they get to play Man City, Southampton and Ipswich instead of us playing Arsenal, Chelsea and Wolves and they have 7 home matches to our 6 (although we have a better away record than our home one). We most certainly do not have to beat Spurs or Man Utd to simply hang in there.
Wolves will stay up, they’ve got a lot of quality and they didn’t look light years off Liverpool, like we did. Yesterday was a well fought point but we still made a silly mistake and gave a goal away, that’s why we won’t be staying up. I think we’ll finish 19th, and a couple of points behind Leicester but with the whole bottom three on record low points.

Chelts you keep saying this. I don't have a 2nd account feel free to ask gav.
I don't see why you feel the need to keep naming me just because there's other posters you're not liking the posts of. No issue if you don't like the ones I make. But I think I've posted acceptable posts since my return so I wish people would lay off a bit personally.

Tbf if Wolves played like today against us it is very unlikely we'd win, or even draw. The entire team now have to up the game and be 100% from min 1 to FT for all the remaining games to have a chance of staying up.
Wolves play well and panic ensues
A draw at av fc with ten men is better then a loss at lfc
Couple of seasons ago ITFC were a 3rd division club, its now in our hands to survive and thrive in the prem. Forget the sfc game, a bloody awful day at the office, but now we have 13 cup finals what a team, what a club.
and we need to bring that amazing away support at villa back to Portman Road and make it a fortress again.
I saw some fans at the start of the season saying we were going to be Mid table. I even remember a post on twitter where some people said they wouldn't have taken 17th if it was offered. Mental.
This season was always going to go the way it has. I think we have done pretty well tbh. 2 points off safety in February is a very good effort.

On paper that run-in looks worse for us, but as you say, we are better away from home than at home, for some reason.
Plus I think we also look better in games we've no right to win, versus games we're maybe expected to win. We've not looked great against the Leicesters, Southamptons, West Hams etc but we've given Villa a run for their money, drawn with United and beaten Spurs.
Maybe it's the lack of expectation or pressure that suits us, or maybe it's because of the way bigger teams attack us more and leave themselves more open than the teams around us.
Having said all that - and it feels GREAT to write this - maybe Spurs and United should be classed as 'teams around us' these days :)

It probably is 3 from 4 to go down but I look at that table and think possibly someone from the teams 12-16 will lose form & confidence and get dragged into too. 12-16 is still not too far away.
