Spurs a poor season but players coming back in from injury. Man U really struggling with injuries, and form. Getting toxic.
Across the two games we need 3 points via a win, 4 and we’d be very pleased, 6 and we’d flip to being confident of survival. But these are still two top teams with talent.
Wolves have Bournemouth away, then on the Tuesday Fulham at home. I wonder if we’ll go to Old Trafford with the ability to go above them?

What has Broadhead done to be left out again? He's been one of the top performers when he's been in the side recently, yet rarely see him in anyone's suggested lineups. |

Would anybody else be intrigued to see BOTH Townsend and Davis in the same starting line up?
I believe Townsend is better defensively and playing Leif higher up the pitch would give him more freedom to create and do what he does best without worrying about being caught too high up the pitch.
When we are defending Leif could then drop back in and become the 5th defender. |  |

I’m sure if Davis is fit he comes straight back in, he’s a quality player, a key part of our forward play. And his defending has improved a little through the season.
BUT, as Phil and Kallum were discussing on TWTV, Townsend is a true full back and defender as compared to Leif. And Townsend seems to bring significantly more solidity. He was blocking out pretty much all the Villa crosses! |
Quite a conundrum developing here as is JC's recent uptick in form because he"s been playing with Townsend,who, being a more traditional full back allows Clarke more freedom to express himself? I thought Clarke seemed so much more relaxed and on his game in his cameo against Villa. Maybe, Clarke and Davis can't be on the pitch at the same time as has been suggested before on here.
Also Townsend will have played a lot with Palmer which can only be a positive at the back.

I hope and assume we'll go with our more assertive (nominal) 4-2-3-1.
I'd favour Godfrey over Johnson at right back as I think he's more switched on. I think Omari has to play RW at the moment, and I'd fancy Broadhead in the 'central' 10 role (didn't he do a bit there in a recent game?) - he was looking really sharp and I think he could make a lot happen from that position and link up with both Delap and Cajuste 'vertically' really well. Clarke has earned a proper go at L10.

I'd consider the excellent and perpetually unlucky Woolfenden with O'Shea moving further right in place of Godfrey if Spurs don't have overwhelming pace across their front line. Having said that, I swear Woolfie is getting quicker, and he's certainly getting more vocal and commanding. I wonder if we have a more aggressive 3 at the back option coming somewhere down the line to incorporate both the excellent O'Shea and Woolfie? |  |

Keep seeing this suggested but really don't think it will ever happen. Our left sided attacker plays predominantly with his back to goal, in tiny pockets of space. The reason Leif looks like he has time/space is because of the structure around him, and the left 10 ahead of him drawing the RB. |  | | |

Good point Hoppy. No doubt he’s done some really good stuff of late. It I do think there is lots more to come from Clarke and he’s building confidence now. I think he can eventually carry more threat and assists than Broadhead. And his cameo at Villa Park was encouraging after Coventry. Better pressing and defective stuff - did get beat once. But he made two clever and difficult forward passes that cut through Villa.
Good problems to have. Also have Jaden.

If we're going with a back four I think we should probably go with Godfrey at RB. O'Shea just doesn't look as comfortable out there as in the centre. If we go with a back three, similar to Villa Park, then I'd be happy with Godfrey on the RWB role as he can play the role. He may be seen as a touch too defensive, especially if Townsend is playing LWB. | |

Agree with this and Leif isn't a natural winger; he isn't going to create space for himself by successfully taking on players, not routinely anyway. Half of Clarke's good attacking play recently has also involved threading passes through to Townsend on the overlap, so I'm hopeful he can develop the same understanding with Leif should they be put together. | | | |
