For the first time I do feel genuinely disappointed and question KMc 21:50 - Feb 26 with 1496 views | Swailsey | We don’t seem to be able to adapt, subs are too late or often like-for-like, there’s no plan b and the match-ups on the wings just don’t work/are easily exposed. I also question the recruitment policy - but I know that’s divisive and I’m not trying to start an argument. I love him for the last 2.5 years, and I’ve had some of my best moments supporting town under him, but we seem to have lost all belief, and we’ve lost the USP we had for all of his time here - the togetherness. How much worse would we have been playing the boys who got us here? Only 2 places worse at most. This will also be super unpopular, but I think I’ve realised I still have a bit of resentment over the summer ordeal. That’s a wholly emotive feeling, but it’s hard to not go back to it at times like this - I wonder if that took some of the feel good passion from the promotion. Still. I got to see town win in the Prem with my Dad again, and that’s amazing and something I’ll always be grateful for.

For the first time I do feel genuinely disappointed and question KMc on 21:56 - Feb 26 with 1338 views | Sarge | Good post. The recruitment has been an utter car crash. Tactically poor and inflexible and yes you’re right, we had what, a few days of the joy of being promoted before the panic of potentially losing the manager arrived. Something that could have been easily dealt with if there was genuinely no interest in joining Brighton/whoever else. A really disappointing season overall.

That's our main strength at the moment. We never gave up tonight, we just weren't at all good enough.

For the first time I do feel genuinely disappointed and question KMc on 21:59 - Feb 26 with 1239 views | NeedhamChris | I personally would rather he had gone out on the high of promotion, and gone to Brighton after his agent spent the summer pimping him around to the highest bidder (which turned out to be us) My concern is that we'll give him this season out of loyalty and so he can develop - only for him to sod off somewhere else and we'll have been in a worse position than if he'd just left in summer 2024.

I think we play like a team of strangers at the moment. No confidence in each other makes it all so pedestrian. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Bollox. McKenna has been unbelievably back and had unprecedented smoke blown up his backside. He's a top coach but has been found wanting this season and has to take ownership of that. He has a job for life imo but needs to realise he has failed this season as much as he has succeeded in others. "Lesser" managers have kept teams up with less backing and never been branded a genius.

This "job for life" mentality is tantamount to accepting failure because of past achievements.

Just because he was backed with overspending on average players doesn't mean he was backed effectively.
For the first time I do feel genuinely disappointed and question KMc on 22:05 - Feb 26 with 1047 views | WicklowBlue | Honestly from my side it feels like what you see from teams struggling at the bottom of any league.... confidence is sapped after a bad run of results. Players forcing passes, making wrong decisions and just handing the ball to the oppo. Then lacking confidence to take ownership and just whip a ball in, all the indecisiveness ends up with hitting the first man on a corner or just crossing the ball out of play like Taylor. No confidence and a lack of Prem quality is telling. While I appreciate KMcK has been changing things around to try and find a formula, for me we have had way too many line up changes week on week which hinders building partnerships and patterns of play. At this point, some stability in personnel going forward would be what I would look for. At least give confidence to the starting 11 (aside from injuries naturally). Also as mentioned elsewhere, at least the ability to whip the ball into the mixer.

He took 2 defenders off and brought on Johnson and Hirst! You seriously wanted him to to play 2 at the back?

We do kind of have 4 identical players, who all have the same weaknesses.

Our recruitment went down the ‘buy the best of the Championship’ route and it’s not worked for the most part. The gulf between an average PL player and a very good Championship player has been a real lesson learned this season. If we manage to get promoted back to the PL, let’s be honest we are going down, we will have to try something different next time.

We need to tap the foreign market and get the overseas scouting network up asap. None of the Prem's starting XI has as many home nations players compared to us. Purely recruiting from the domestic market and getting only English-speaking players is unfeasible. Of course we cannot afford to buy Foden and C.Palmer, so we end up with the Hutchinsons, Philogenes and Clarkes which at the moment are not fit for purpose in the Prem. And McK better start working on his multi-cultural management skills.

Not touting for it, but I would imagine/hope the club would have put some sort of break clauses in to their benefit which would be performance based. The contract wouldn't all be in favor of the manager surely.
