I was more talking about the thread and the speech rather than historically but it's a fair point you've made. It was a bit tongue in cheek but clearly misjudged.

Sorry about that, apologies.

SB

Edit Wow, even an apology gets a down vote from Bloots nowadays. What a surreal world we are living in.

Do we think that Trump calling him “Governor” was disrespectful?

Interesting turn around in the fortunes of the Liberals in Canada, down to Trump's actions.

I do. But it’s part of the ‘deal’. Demeaning, belittling, ignoring are all in the Big Orange Sh$tgibbon’s play book.

It’s simple. Bankrupt Canada, get noses into the dirt and they’ll see how right it is to join the USA. Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. I read that 80% of Canadians don’t like the idea and as a people they are not prone to bending to a bully’s will.

I like Canada and Canadians. They’re less up their own chuffs than Americans. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve hardly seen any of it - just beautiful British Columbia, Alberta, Montreal and a bit of the east side of the country. It’s huge and much of it wild tundra. Terrific place. I hope they retain their independence.

Of course, one of the reasons for the 1812 war was Americas desire to absorb Canada. It didn’t go well for them. But don’t annoy S’gibbon by telling him that. In fact don’t tell America, they lost that war badly and were essentially bankrupt for 20 years because of it.

If you’ve ever been to the Shannon pub at Bucklesham, it’s named after the 38 gun Frigate that was commanded by Suffolk’s Philip Broke. HMS Shannon captured USS Chesapeake in ‘the Battle of Boston Bay’ in 1813. Captain Broke, who’d trained his crew to a high state of efficiency essentially challenged Chesapeake to a duel. It didn’t last long!

Attached is an article from US Naval Institute. The American lies and slander that followed the battle have similarity to the lies and slander spewing out of America to be lapped up by its adoring population now.

He recently resigned because he is very unpopular so the contrarians are in the majority now are they? Why do you have such inability to cope with views that don't match your own that you have to make unprovoked digs? It's really anti-social behaviour for a public message board.

'Popular' isn't the same as 'decent'.
Example: Nigel Farage is popular. Gordon Brown wasn't.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Not sure Gillian Duffy would agree.

Trudeau resigning in January may I imagine is a major factor in the upturn alongside Trump's rhetoric.

Imagine all the trouble that would have been saved for this country if the BBC hadn't broadcast those clearly private remarks.

Which weren't that bad, really. The President of America says worse to people's faces.

Unfortunately there is an inexplicably high number of people that absolutely adore trump and everything he stands for. They probably either won't watch this from Justin T as they don't watch any news, or through the Trump lens of fox news where they will double down as it is framed as insulting the US.

Trump himself has already doubled down as expected.

I'm not referring to them watching this. I am referring to them suffering the consequences.

US is going to struggle fighting with Russia to win Ukraine, invading Greenland and so fighting the whole of NATO (including themselves if they don't resign from it in time), invading Canada and fighting Mexico.

China are going to be the big winners in all this.

The phrase "fighting a war on multiple fronts" seems applicable here.

Trump and Co. have gone full in on multiple fronts to upset the apple cart imho.

Dare I say I hope this becomes a Truss esque moment where Markets tank, reciprocal tariffs hurt the US economy. At some stage (which is likely to a very low point) other Republicans fear the worst in the mid term elections. But ultimately they create so much chaos the current administration ends up focusing on internal matters rather than screwing Ukraine/Europe etc.

Maybe I'm an idealist but...hopefully instead of PWEI, it will be (Trumpism) TWEI.

Saw that, then switched on Sky News, where the orange narcissist was showing his autograph to the press in the White House while a young woman thanked him for all he has done for women. Clearly the fentanyl problem is worse than I thought.

My son works on a USAF air base, he said at the time of his election they all praised Trump & MAGA. This week a lot of them are changing there minds.
