FIFA World Cup 2026 13:16 - Mar 5 with 1831 views | TractorFactor | Apologies if been brought up before, but just wondering if everyone is looking forward to the World Cup next year in US, Canada and Mexico. Can see it being a real global carnival of celebration.

FIFA World Cup 2026 on 13:29 - Mar 5 with 1733 views | bsw72 | Absolute car crash waiting to happen considering it is firstly organised by "show me the money" FIFA and secondly primarily across 3 nations currently in political/trade conflict against each other. What could go wrong eh?

For now. Even Hitler managed to tone things down long enough to host the Olympics. Trump will be in his element hosting his mates from Argentina, Hungary, Slovakia, Russia(?) and others. After the event is over he will be able to ridicule Mexico and Canada about how much better it was in the US and go back to being the absolute prick he is.

FIFA World Cup 2026 on 15:42 - Mar 5 with 1339 views | SE1blue | I was living in LA during the 1994 World Cup and went to the group game between Cameroon and Sweden at the Rose Bowl. We were in with the Swedish fans and it was a lot of fun. The football fans made the tournament, the Americans were largely clueless about it. Things are a little different now but back then, you barely knew the World Cup was on in the USA unless you were in a bar. When Brazil won the final, they cut to commercials instead of showing them lifting the trophy. Football is more about money these days, so I am sure America will be invested in it. I live in Canada now and their team is getting much better so they're pretty tuned in to this. As soon as the USA gets knocked out, expect to see all of their fans wearing Brazil or Argentina shirts.

France wasn’t much better in 98. Tickets for games not involving the major teams were handed out to local authority employees. Took in three non England games, Nantes, Bordeaux & Stad de France. At the first two venues there were long lines of people each trying to sell a couple of tickets. When we watched the England v Argentina game the bar keeper turned the TV off on 90 minutes and again after extra time.

And presumably Donald Trump will insist on handing over the trophy (probably to the wrong team) after landing his helicopter in the centre circle.

FIFA World Cup 2026 on 10:41 - Mar 6 with 757 views | _clive_baker_ | I was hoping to go. Would've been my 3rd and possibly final major tournament following England, but I'm less sure now as a point of principle. Might just watch it from the UK and put some cash in the pockets of local landlords instead.
