I heard the same a couple of weeks ago. We can't terminate the agreement of the loan, but if he's not doing what we thought he would, we don't have to play him.

Have heard rumblings that an internal decision was made for him not to even bother training/being here with us, just wasn't up to anywhere near the sort of standard we needed.
We still have to pay for him though of course. But it was better for him to just go back rather than stay here and rent, relocate etc any further. |  | | |

That shows just how poor our scouting has been this season.
It has progressively gotten poorer as we climb the leagues.
In League One basically anyone we signed turned to gold.
In the Championship it was still decent sans AAH who is a long term project and BW for his personal issues
In the Prem the players we signed have by far not been fit for PL purpose except for Delap, Cajuste, O'Shea, Szmodics and Palmer, who are at best lower Prem standard. | | | |

Our recruitment will have been aimed towards the long term, which has generally been great. We've got the basis of a good young team going forward.
I expect we've wanted to get get better quality players with Premier League experience, but have failed. I mean, if you're good enough for an established Premier League team, why would you come to a newly promoted team? Especially now the narrative has been set that the three who come up will go straight back down.
Therefore we've had to take punts on those who aren't getting regular football for whatever reason, such as injury, like Phillips and Godfrey, players that if we got fit and playing regular could make a difference for us. Phillips has worked to an extent, but has also suffered injuries, but I have to have admit I've been baffled by the Godfrey move.
We've also suffered for not having an overseas scouting network due to the neglect of this club for so many years. | |

Simply don't buy this argument as a sweeping generalisation - there's so much nuance and caveats - not least the fact that so many of the players we've brought in are *still* our players. What happens if two or three of them lead us to the title next year, is our recruitment still a disaster? |  | | |

I think that will have to change and will change as it has hampered us. But I don't believe it would've ever been up and running to such an extent as to be of any use to us this season. We're still playing catch-up after the Evans years. | |
