Who lives near the mega shed on 15:35 - Mar 17 with 6607 views | Hugoagogo_Reborn | I don't, but I can't blame them for being upset. It's fair enough if you move somewhere and that's already staring you in the face while you 'enjoy' your garden, but quite another when someone approves that eyesore being plonked there when you are used to having an actual view. I agree with the resident who said it looks like a prison. Probably knocked thousands off the value of their houses, too, even though the overalarket prices have gone up. [Post edited 17 Mar 15:41]

Who lives near the mega shed on 15:44 - Mar 17 with 6582 views | itfcjoe | They live where there is a train line running at the back of their garden and an A road another 75m behind that - I obviously wouldn't want it in the back of my garden but some people really do over exaggerate the effect of things. It wasn't like it was an AONB in the first place with cargo trains thundering past it all day. The price of progress, and complaints like this are why nothing ever gets done in this country infrastructure wise - it's an infill bit of land between the A14 and a the Felixstowe main train line

I’ve not seen it personally but judging by the pictures I think a nearby road and railway line would be preferable to that monstrosity looming over my house.

I get that to an extent, but surely it wouldn't take much to set the warehouse back a bit further to make it less intrusive.

Tbf fair the train line doesn't bother you once you get used to it, and the modern locos are alot quieter. And you again get used to road noise. But this thing is huuuge, I saw it at the weekend and was gobsmacked how close it is to peoples houses, I knew they'd built one up the Suffok show ground end, where there aren't houses backing onto it, but this I think anyone would be rightly annoyed to have that built at the bottom of their garden. What the hell are they storing in it anyway, a bunch of A380s that got lost on the way to Heathrow. It's stupidly positioned because there's tons of land up there with links to the a14/a12, that aren't backing onto people's houses. So why build there ?
Who lives near the mega shed on 20:34 - Mar 17 with 6037 views | football | Was wondering how long it would take for this post. The warehouses are set well back from the properties and behind an existing railway line. There is no right to a private view and property values are not material planning considerations. The site before was not lush Greenfields but a well used lorry park with an allocation in the local plan for many years for warehouses - well before several of these residents bought their houses. Look at the significant economic investment in the area, job creation, utilisation of a brownfield dilapidated site - these are huge! Ask me any questions, I was the planner who took the item to Committee

The plot of land behind those houses is literally a green field when you look on google maps! The bit where the other 2 sheds are was also a field previously, with the lorry park just being the land nearer to the A14. [Post edited 17 Mar 20:43]

It isn't - it is allocated in the local plan for B8 storage and distribution from 2013 (and I think before) and has a lawful use as such | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not disputing what it may have been allocated as, but you've stated that it was dilapidated brownfield site, which isn't the case! The buildings make no difference to me at all, and I can appreciate the benefits they may bring, but that land wasn't a giant lorry park.

Who lives near the mega shed on 20:50 - Mar 17 with 5941 views | textbackup | I come out of straight road most days en route to the gym, and when I saw that going up my first thought was them people. Regardless of the road at front, or trainline, to have the skyline totally dominated by that monstrous thing is awful. Sat in the garden of an evening, looking at that. Knocking a significant amount of the value of your house. Feel for them

It would need to be atleast a 3000meters away to not impact them. You need to see it to believe the size.

They have very long gardens, the pics are very deceptive but it was always going to happen there given the allocation. And impact on house value is not anything we can take into consideration

I see it every day, the pics aren’t deceptive. Would you be happy with that dominating the skyline of the house you’ve lived at years?

No, and if I was I’d not be so inconsiderate. As long as you are proud of the days work then fair play. If you can’t see the issue, that says it all. Wouldn’t be the first time someone in planning applied zero common sense. [Post edited 17 Mar 21:01]

Did the buildings need planning permission? Were the home owners aware of the proposals and allowed to give representations? If so, on what grounds did they object?

Read the Committee report and understand the issues and what we can assess maybe before assuming. Yes, I am happy with the decision. We are regulatory and cannot apply common sense as. you want - but I am sure you know that

The only observation I would have is whether the side on view could have been painted in some sort of green to make it look more like artificial privacy fencing. Or if not green, if it could have been clad in something like wood?

Mate, you’d need to chop down the entire Amazon rain forest to get enough wood to clad that! I’ve looked at the pics in the story, it actually is bigger and worse in real life. [Post edited 17 Mar 21:14]
