Off to Syderstone in North Norfolk for a few days' break 07:15 - Mar 26 with 2641 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

Any tips for things to see/do?
We've been to Holkham Hall and Sheringham National Park last time we stayed in Norfolk (as recommended by people on here), which were both enjoyable.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

We’ll be up there next week, in laws place that we’ve been to hundreds of times over the years. Sandringhams good although part of that day out is the country/coast drive back to sheringham with a stop at burn ham market and white horse at brancaster staithe. Going to castle rising for first time which will have the same drive back.

If you like a bit of nature, Cley Marshes and Titchwell Marsh are both worth checking out. You're close to Sculthorpe Moor and Pensthorpe where you're staying and they're both worth checking out as well.

A visit to Hunstanton to watch the sunset is always worthwhile as well. Plenty of nice pubs in places like Brancaster and Wells, and Wells itself is a pretty town. You can get a miniature railway from the town to the beach.

Sorry to report that the miniature railway is no more. Been gone quite a few years now.

Make sure to visit the Extra Digit Museum, with a display of additional fingers of many famous Norfolk folk. Ranging from Lord Nelson to Jeremy Goss - it’s fascinating to see what they achieved…

Alternatively, and probably a bit more genuine, a boat trip at Blakeney Point to watch the seals is a very good experience.

Noooooo! I reckon my last visit must have been just before it closed in that case as it's not been that many years since I was last there.

I think the little railway between Wells and Walsingham is still going though so there is still a small train option.

That's a very nice little trip too, and Sheringham is worth half a day mooching around.

We watched that go under us while walking last time we were there, so might be nice to actually go on it!

Walk on Holkham beach for the views and massive beach when the tide is out. Holt is nice . Blakeney is nice and also nice walk out of the harbour around the sea path, you can walk to cley from there if you like. Sea trips from blakeney if that’s your thing. You’ve also for wiverton hall near there which is where the normal for Norfolk bloke was or is.

Also burnham market for bunch of boutique type shops.

Moreston hall or wiverton bell or orange tree are all good restaurants in that area. But there’s loads of good pubs doing food.

Brancaster beach my favourite in the area, can go for a nice walk along it as long as you get the tides right.

In August I had brilliant meals at the Gin Trap Inn in Hunstanton and Socius in Burnham Market, both of which I’d thoroughly recommend. Eric’s fish and chips also very good (I think there is a couple of locations for that).

Brancaster crab hut is possibly the 8th wonder of the world.

Crab sarnie and a tub to make a salad or two when you get home :-)

If you venture towards Cromer, and don’t mind a similar climb to the steps at Covent Garden tube station, you can get some great views from the top climbing the church tower. (I don’t know if you still can)
Another walk is up the clifftop to the lighthouse - also some fantastic views.

Just realised, it's not open until Saturday 5th April. That's shame. Definitely worth a visit.

Never spend money in Norfolk. It's a no no unless Town visit

Plenty to do there. Sheringham, Cromer, Hunstanton, Wells all good. I’ve not been to Kings Lynn in decades and we are going there for a couple of days in June to tootle about. If you are interested in old buildings, Blickling Hall is quite interesting and the Broads are always a relaxing place.

Avoid Yarmouth. Spent time at my grandmothers during my childhood there and it was a dump then, bar the fish and chips. It’s a lot worse now!

I notice you left out the word 'Great' there... for a reason, I guess.

Always just knew it as Yarmouth tbh, but you are of course right. There’s absolutely nothing great about it. A few interesting bits remain, but not much. It’s all a bit desperate, but perhaps it always was.

The Rollercoaster at the Pleasure Beach was quite good, even if it did blow down every winter, but that’s about your lot

You could pop in to Norwich and go to Carrot Road to see their trophy room. Opening times are 10.15 to 10.20 Monday to Friday. Admission by ticket only which due to demand must be purchased at least five minutes before entry. Ticket holders must bring a torch with them as there's no light in the cupboard.
