The 5 year ban from standing seems ridiculously low though. I’ve just looked up the Uk company director disqualification terms for court convictions and they can be up to 15 years. I’d have thought the bar for supposed public servants should be higher. Obviously a different country, but my French isn’t up to finding the equivalent on official French websites!

If she gets it overturned she will come back a lot stronger.
If she doesn’t then the likes of Jordan Bardella will pick up the baton in a big way.
If France have attempted to stop her and her party by the courts rather than the ballot box then they may have unleashed a French Trumpian scenario.

Five years seems to be standard here - Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman was removed from office for electoral fraud but was allowed to run again (and did successfully) after the five year ban expired...

You’re sounding a bit conspiratorial there. She’s been found guilty of embezzling €4.4 million. I’d expect the authoritarian fascists to claim she’s been the target of a political smear campaign, as they have absolutely no respect for the rule of law being applied to them. As far as I’m aware, France has a judiciary that’s independent from politics. So if you think she’s been shut down to silence her, well, as I said, that sounds a bit of a whacky conspiracy theory.
There has been a crackdown on human rights in recent years, including the right to free speech and right to protest. But this isn’t that.
