Perhaps some context needed, Muric made errors which led to two goals in two minutes, so that vote would have been a reflection of his performance rather than what might be viewed as an agenda.

Fair - although I was answering the point about him being slated (which he was for that performance), rather than a wider agenda.

I realise it was also his first game not his second.

He got 8.7 for his performance against Brighton, which I'd say was his only standout display, off the top of my head.

I'd forgotten some of his positive spells, September and November he did pretty well. That Brighton game felt like he was on fire and Man City might have been a one-off, sadly didn't work out that way.

Even GKs in the top 6/7 teams make mistakes. Chelsea GKs have probably made more mistakes this season than Town keepers and they're in the top 6.
The difference is they have the quality of players to score more goals than the opposition so the GK mistakes are overlooked.

Yeah true. Chelsea are probably a bad example because they're awful in that department, but you are right.

Exactly. It’s a weird narrative that people seem keen to jump on every time Walton or now Palmer makes an error.

Muric had some good qualities (as you would obviously expect because he played for Man City), but he has by and large been atrocious for us and IMO has contributed towards our relegation hugely.

Agree. Idle fun thought - if we’d had Pickford and Everton had had Muric all season, we wouldn’t be in the drop zone but Everton would be.

This is a true statement

Apart from the fact it’s not remotely true, good post.

Even if Palmer is as bad as Muric (which I disagree), pound for pound he’s still much better. Muric cost SIX times as much.

There are many more worrying areas in the squad to fix than the GK position now though.

There were times that I thought I could do better than Muric and I can't even reach the crossbar

Two bad ones yesterday: the backpass and the cross that O'Shea somehow saved on the line (more crosses into the six-yard area are causing havoc than before I'd say). Hospital passes against Palace and Bournemouth, Southampton-like save as you mention, I don't think you're being unfair in your comparison but thankfully we've avoided punishment pretty much every time, and probably Muric's worst mistakes are the worst of anybody. Palmer remains confident, is seemingly charmed, and vocal, all positives.

All our keepers have found the level tough and they've all been overworked this season; the only (definitively) tougher assignment is at Southampton. I'm glad the position's being talked about less now because it wasn't healthy and isn't the key problem (that opponents create more good chances to score nearly every game). Palmer should do well for us next season (I see no prospect of him being poached in the summer).

Not that it matters as Muric is yesterdays man and best to look forwards but had Muric put in the Bournemouth performance lots would have been made over willing the goal and the ‘pass’ to Morsy that DOS got him out of jail for

You can’t compare Muric’s effort against Southampton to Palmer’s against Bournemouth. Palmer did really well to keep the first effort out. Muric’s was a much mor routine save.

I think if we spent 40m on ramsdale instead of muric philigene and clarke we'd b staying up

I said elsewhere that if we’d had Pickford and Everton had had Muric all season, we wouldn’t be in the drop zone but they probably would!

Maybe the coaching is an issue, why play to players weaknesses, play to their strengths. If they can't pass out from the back confidently and precisely don't do as often. Equally the plan of pass to Morsy back to keeper out to Davis lose the ball puts a lot of pressure on the keeper with one option to play to.

Ditto, coach the strikers to win fouls (the dark arts) from goal kicks and get us up the pitch rather than pinning ourselves back with sideways, backward and of course suicide passing.

We've reduced the emphasis on baiting the press and the striker is seeing his fair share of long balls, but converting those into FKs or retained possession consistently is easier said than done. More talented players would have a much easier time of implementing a successful strategy.

Palmer is going to be a safe and a dependable pair of hands in the Championship. Nothing flash, does his job, that's all we need - 7 out of 10 each week will do just fine for me.

Can’t be arsed to look up the stats but it certainly feels as though he has conceded more goals %wise than the other two

That said, the outfield players appear to be more confident with him playiing
