I really hope we have got it right with Philogene 03:14 - Apr 6 with 4233 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Doubling down and paying 22M for a player whose best position appears to be the same as Jack Clarke’s who we have already spent 15M on. We must think the ceiling is very high because when we done the deal there was obviously a very good chance of us playing championship football next season. I’m assuming both will be here for 25/26. We shall see.

We seem to get too fixated on certain players.

At this moment one can only assume he was bought for next season to replace Hutch?

That said as you say we have Jack Clarke who I think will be my favourite player next season once he gets a starting place week in, week out.

Ditto the signing of Ben Scumfrey what was that all about?

I really hope they learn we need to buy players to actually fit into and improve the team this summer.

He was just a loan and a back up RB, a position we had injury trouble in. Not remotely the same or relevant to this thread, Philogene is basically our joint record signing.

Then we shouldn’t be looking to sell him.

I agree that we won't be but if a club offers decent money we would consider it. Every player will have a price and it might well be that Ogbene's is one of those that a club is prepared to meet.

We have no idea how well Ogbene will recover from what is a very serious injury. He may never be quite the player that he was.

I don't disagree, having had one of those myself but we will see

Our fitness team seemed to do a very good job on Burns last season

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I tell you, this man Philogene is no good.

Too lightweight weak for us.

When he play on the right - non existent.
When he play on the left in a position with more freedoms, he lose ball?

Why we buy this man i ask?

For England youngsters he looks good so far for ipswich he looks like a pub player so far.

Maybe he is an England youngster playing in a pub team for whom a midfield is just something that happens at other clubs. Actually it’s not a pub team (Hirst assembled one of those, as did Jewell - literally), but I just don’t get the vitriol heaped on Philogene who has been here two minutes playing for a poor team.

I know the summer saga annoyed people but he has signed for us. He’s our player and it’d be nice to give him a chance. I think he’s got every chance of being excellent for us next year if played in a decent set up in his right position.

He's a pretty chaotic season to be fair to him, all the pre season nonsense with the transfer situation, barely playing for Villa, then getting sold to us midway through an incredibly demanding/tough season.

Think with a full pre season behind him in a settled team he will come good.

Out of the players mentioned, think we'll see Harness and Broadhead leave.

If he stays or wants to go, I hope it gets sorted early.
The club don't need any of the drama his agent has probably got in store for us this summer.
I can imagine now, "one of Jaden's highlights, was single handedly getting Ipswich level at Old Trafford with 2 sublime finishes, but just quite couldn't do it all on his own".

He's a superb footballer. We've not seen anything close to his best in a Town shirt yet but we need to stay patient with him, he's one who can absolutely fly next season.

The irony that we're not playing either of them in that position at the moment.

It's looking a bit muddled. For the first time in ashton/mckenna's time.

I think philogene will come good and i hope jack clarke will too.

I think 'a bit muddled' is being kind to be honest, as others have posted the list of players we have for the LW position is ridiculous, particularly when you consider how lightweight we seem in CM and probably another CF. I know particularly in January you have to go with who is available to a certain extent, but I think it is very hard to argue that those behind the scenes (Ashton and the scouting team/data analysis) have had a good season.

I would say the one positive in how badly this season has gone is we know now, 4 months before the start of the Championship season, what league we will be in next year, meaning we have time to make decisions about who stays. Conversations can be had with players openly about their future, and we can plan our recruitment without the ambiguity of what league we will be playing in.

We do seem to have over-stocked in that area of the pitch.

I suspect Ogbene may go as well as Hutchinson.

We have missed Burns, Chaplin and Szmodics through injury a lot this season and there will be injuries among that list.

I agree that Harness probably leaves but a lot will depend on who is offering what for which players. McKenna clearly likes to have 2 players for each position and likes to change the front 3 or 4 late in the match. None of those appears to be able to play the striker role and I wonder if Szmodics and Broadhead were considered as possibly doing that.

I think we probably lose 2 of that list (as well as Enciso going back and Harness leaving). If more than 2 go, we probably sign someone else (or keep Harness as a squad player for next season).

Agree. You'd suspect a couple will leave and a couple will always be injured.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

It does worry me where Broadhead will end up.

I can't see any of the PL clubs coming in for him, which means he will go to a good Championship side and make them better.

We don't need the likes of Sunderland or Middlesborough suddenly having a blinding season.
