Had a terrific season in League one and has just won the supporters young player of they year.

You'd have to say it's clear he needs to now play in the champ as the next logical step. I would imagine he'll get a full pre-season with us and I'm desperate to see him get a shot but his best position is where we are incredibly strong. Even if 1 or 2 leave how does he get game time ahead of 3 from Broadhead, Clarke, Chaplin, Sammie, Philogene, Omari, Burns, Ogbene? You'd even have to throw Taylor in there. I think 1-2 Max might move on.

If he was a CM behind it would be much easier. I don't think he is a left back either even though he can do a job. Boniface I think will be ahead there now as a natural LB and fighting it out with Townsend if Davis goes.

It will be very interesting to see what happens.

I think he would probably feel his best position is as a central midfielder rather than a number 10, I know one of his former coaches believes that is the case.

I’d bring him back and say right, CM is your position - time to make it yours. He looks a terrific player to me and more than ready for week in week out Championship football.

That's interesting and whether he can operate there how we play. Could certainly see him in a 3 man midfield in more of an 8. Would love to see us try it pre-season. A young prospect there is much needed given the ages we have there.

I do wonder if we might look at Johnson there as well when we have Burns and Ogbene back. He has played there for West Ham at times.

Do you see us back in for Downes Phil?

He used to lack a bit of physicality for me to play there. Compared to a Flynn downes say.

Given the likely departures this summer, plus the fact that Morsy won't be getting any younger, that CM is an area we'll be looking pretty thin on and it's a no-brainer for me to see if he can establish himself in the side.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It's where he's played most of his first team minutes for us as well. He's had the occasional run out as a 10 or a left back but I've seen nothing to suggest we see him as anything other than a CM long term.

It’s about time he had a go at keeper!

I’d be surprised if he’s not heavily involved in pre-season with an opportunity to nail down a place. He’s had a brilliant year.

One of the good things about him is his ability to play in a variety of of positions but what I’ve seen of him he’s a CM. We have been sorely lacking in that area and I think alongside Morsy, who will do a lot of the dirty work, plus somebody coming in and with the back ups we have something resembling a solid midfield.

I cannot see Cajuste staying. Nor would he necessarily suit ‘up an at em’ Championship football in my view (might be wrong). He’s great running with the ball, lots of ability, but does he really hurt teams or control games? Does he flatter to deceive? Hard to tell given how tough it’s been and a lot on here like him so I’m probably wrong. Lastly 46 games? Fitness is an issue and I think if at all possible, we need to be careful with how many of those we have.

Taylor? Great shot on him, likeable character but I see him as a squad player at best. If we could recoup our money I’d be inclined to let him go.

One player I think we’ve sorely missed this year is a younger Luongo. I think he’s a terrific player who was quietly effective for us in the last two seasons, but sadly time doesn’t wait for anyone.

I’m rambling on but, Humphreys is one of the best L1 players this year and would walk into any L1 side. Given how well our players stepped up to Championship football, why shouldn’t he?

Agree with most of that. The versatility makes him a good addition where you have set squad numbers. Just don't want him to lack game time at this stage. I don't think he will be a regular starter for us next year but if he is a. Insistent squad player with minutes it's good for him.

Taylor I tend to agree however if en we are heading down to the champ he stays. I still don't think he will be a regular starter but this might be his last chance.

We have to replace Luongo and Morsy this summer. I wonder if Luongo moves on.

Why could he not be a regular starter for us? Most of our L1 team started in the Championship and nobody batted an eyelid.

He’s 21, played a full season in a tough division and shone. Tell him he’s starting and to make the position his.

Yes, I think Luongo will move on. Terrific player. I didn’t like the idea of him returning. Waste of a shirt, thought I. How wrong can you be.

I'd like to think he can step up but as others have indicated I am not sure where he fits in. A pre-season to assess that and we might have a little gem on our hands.

Taylor is a good comparison on 09:26 - Apr 23 with 2119 viewsunstableblue

Humphreys is an attacking central midfielder.

He’s been playing in a Broadhead type role at Wycombe, given a lot of license to roam. Further forward.

But of all the names you mention as current players and competition to Humphreys making a step-up into Town in the Championship it’s Taylor for me who is ahead of him.

And whilst Taylor has had limited game time this season, he’s still way ahead of Humphreys - more physicality, strong shooting.

The three man midfield with CH as an 8?
Us back in for Downes?
Johnson playing in midfield?

All of the above?

I love the sentiment, but I'm not sure a midfield two of Morsy and Humphreys will be good enough. That said, a midfield of Morsy and Luongo wasn't fancied with the likes of Downes, Dewsbury-Hall, Kamara etc about.

If he wasn't already ours, would we honestly be looking at him as a replacement for Cajuste? If we have any chance of going up and staying up we need those PL quality prospects. Cajuste is that and will go to Brentford, Palace, or I have a sneaky feeling, Man Utd in lieu of some of the McTominay fee.

Humphreys will have a part to play but I'm hoping there will be new face alongside Morsy who he will really have to fight to get any time starting.

Just to be clear I didn't mean hope we try 3 man midfield with an 8 as well...I meant hope we try him in our 2 CM system in preseason.

He'd be pretty much as perfect a CM in the system we play as we could realistically buy. Great age, prem experience, proven a class act in the champ and knows the club so would settle very quickly. McKenna would be perfect for him.

Sheaf would be a great pivot with him. Ideal Morsy Luongo long term partnership.

Absolutely wild to see people suggesting he should be told the CM position is his in a season it is imperative we go straight back up. It's a lovely thought but there is no time for sentiment or learning on the job. He will either be loaned or be a squad player (and i'm not sure why he'd accept this after the season he's had) in my opinion

Yeah I'm happy to be proven wrong but don't see it either.
Morsy and Luongo got through so much defensive work last season, it was a huge part of why the team worked. Cam doesn't have that in him. Very tidy and clever on the ball but we struggled to dominate games in league 1 when he played there.

Not a chance in my opinion other than utility if injuries. Not his position. Not going to have square pegs in round holes where not needed.
