What does it take to keep Cajuste? 17:58 - Apr 27 with 2853 viewsBaltachaFanClub

I know that in reality, it’s almost impossible to keep the team together.
But let’s dream.

I would like us to ask Napoli if we can strike the deal.
Then see whether Jens wants to stay.

I would love us to keep Delap too, but let’s be honest, that’s just as tricky.

And for what it’s worth the third key cog is O’Shea, but I fear he stays in the prem too.

That said, losing those players plus a couple more should mean we can bolster well?

Sorry… slow afternoon on the sofa.

Both Cajuste and Delap will have what they believe to be a genuine chance to be at the World Cup next year. Neither would jeopardise that by hiding away in the Championship, especially as they will get offers from top flight teams. And even with my bluest of blue-tinted glasses I wouldn't expect them to.

That's a factor for O Shea I suppose too. Hadn't thought of that. Balls. Realistically is anyone else pushing to be in the top flight for potentially a world cup team?

Maybe Szmodic, but I think he'd be better off with more guaranteed games in the championship, even if he could get a move up. Hirst, for Scotland, don't think it makes much difference what league he's in and would rather be playing, Shirley? Might it even be in Burgess' thinking? More playing decent quality games than prem specific, but still. Can't see anyone else though.

Interesting angle, hadn't considered the world cup in the horizon.

He’s been a good signing and had a strong season on balance, but I can take it or leave it tbh. We need someone who can handle the rigours of a 46 game championship season and I’m not convinced he has shown that. Especially for the sort of money we would be looking at. We need out big investments to make big impacts.

Possibly O'Shea, Burgess, etc, although with no disrespect to Ireland and Australia they are perhaps more likely to pick players from outside the Premier League. Still, it may play on their minds when deciding their future in the summer.

Not sure we need to ask Napoli (we might). The loan to perm terms were done just only obligated if we stayed up. Assume we can still take the option. The issue is Cajuste agreeing as he would have options at top flight clubs here and overseas. Don't see it happening.

On balance it might not be right for us either. I'd love to keep him but he can't do a 38 game season in the Prem so a 46 game champ season would be an issue. We would have to consider him a player we can get 30 games out of and be confident we can keep a high enough standard when without him. Worth the gamble but £ to games/points might not match up.

He’s been individually great, but it’s what - 1 goal and 1 assist (if that?).

I wouldn’t break the bank for him, but he’s had some lovely moments.

We could probably have Kalvin Phillips on loan next season if we want because I doubt others will be queuing up for him.

Hard to judge him with such statistics given our situation this season. One you have to judge by what you watch during the games, and he has much about him that could make him the linchpin of a highly creative midfield.

If he’s willing to stay, then we should try to close out a deal based on the obligation terms to buy him, had we stayed up.

Yep, as good as he's been, if we're still having to protect his knee in April then there's something chronically wrong there. Certainly not cut out for the rigours of a Championship campaign.

Interesting stat. It can’t be far off that. He looks good running with the ball. Great control. But does he really hurt teams? How truly effective is he? It’s difficult because the team overall is so poor and since I’ve used this line to defend other plays, the same question has to apply to him.

Overall, if wages were ok and there was little or no fee - or a season long loan, I’d take him and accept the risk on his fitness, which let’s face it is marginal.

Dont think any Ireland player has any chance of being anywhere near a world cup

Yeah, dunno. There's about 100 qualification spots now aren't there.
