Reform on 17:00 - May 3 by BlueRobin | Agreed. It’s not easy. Two kids at private school, £600k mortgage, two cars, two or three holidays a year cannot be done on that salary. You need double that. Thirty years ago, the equivalent salary would have allowed that lifestyle, which although privileged, should hardly be the preserve of the super rich |
i'm guessing you're a parody poster; in which case, well played!

Reform on 17:01 - May 3 by redrickstuhaart | No. Its a significant differences, which is why people do it. How many 30k a year people do you need paying tax to bring in the same amount as your 200k earner saves, doing it apportioned through wages up to the top of the 20% limit, and then through dividends? This stuff is absolutely normal. Its why IR35 came in. Your position appears to be "its my money and I dont see why I should pay taxes". [Post edited 3 May 17:03]

Yes, as I said, I do think high mid level earners pay too much tax. Tax the large corporations, by all means, but removing the incentive for those on mid range salaries to progress their earnings, or earn more by working more hours, is, in my opinion, counterproductive

Do you disagree that that standard of living should only be the preserve of the super rich? As I said, thirty years ago, that could be achieved by a professional couple. Now, it can’t. The gradual lowering of this country’s expectations and ambitions is very disheartening

It seems reasonable that a 600k mortgage, two sets of private schools fees and various other luxuries should not be the expectation of someone who is not a very high earner indeed.

you're still wibbling on? i'd rather we paid for better education for all, not subsidise the rich to send their kids to posh schools and posh holidays at the expense of everyone else's kids. i do agree that we should tax the "super rich" much more though

Ok, well I disagree. In the US every middle earner would be aspiring to this. In the U.K., people would rather criticise those who do. It’s part of the reason the US and U.K. economies have experience such different trajectories since 2008. Only part of the reason, mind, but a part, nonetheless. Other reasons include Brexit, immigration, Covid response and now Labour.

Ok, that’s a start! We agree on one thing! Not so much the super rich individuals (as they will just leave the country) but rather the corporations from my perspective. But, I agree!

I take the view that the time to believe something, is when there is sufficient evidence offered for it. Its a much more reliable path to truth than just basing beliefs on what you "reckon".

10% of americans in private schools. 6% in UK. The US is a far larger and richer nation.

Any high earners leaving the UK for tax reasons should be treated like all other economic migrants on return and denied reentry into the UK. Or at the very least be forced to cross the channel on small boats while Farage stands up on a cliff behind um screaming profanities about illegal immigration at um through a loud hailer.

Wow! Those things should not be the preserve of the super-rich! How much does your partner earn on top of that? Or is it also the preserve of the not-super rich to be able to struggle on in their £750K house running 2 cars, sending their children to private boarding schools, taking a foreign holiday every year to not have to work as well?

We are going to ensure that we get rid of diversity officers because amazingly Lincolnshire County Council is now Reform controlled. That is a historic moment.” However, The Independent has seen a freedom of information answer from Lincolnshire County Council, where Reform now has a majority, stating: “Lincolnshire County Council does not employ any diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) officers.” Seems they are just copying Trump policies whether they're applicable or not. The fact that some want the country to follow the Trump route is hard to fathom. It does highlight the general point that evidence is utterly meaningless to these people, it's soundbites and demonisation. SB

Demonising who? She has decided that the council does not require these positions and is acting accordingly. If she goes along and does this it’s hardly a sound bite but action described by her, Has it been said the council is firing black, brown or LGBT people?
