If McKenna starts like this in August/September, he’s in big trouble. Since Christmas, we’ve just given up…

Do YOU think we should be top 6 next season? You seem very critical for us not being above the relegation zone in the Premier League so I would assume you would have that expectation, wouldn't you?

Apprecaite not directed at me but I'd be harsher. I'd say we should be in automatic promotion contention. The drop off between the top three - two of whom are now in the Premier League with the other possibly joining them - is pretty extreme. I understand Birmingam and Wrexham may be looking to make a mark but there's a no reason we shouldn't be looking at the top two.

Whether it works out that way...

Have to say I’m starting to agree with the McKenna Out faction. He really has overseen a total capitulation the last couple months. Has to start very very strong next season. This does not now seem unreasonable.

The McKenna out faction? WTF are you talking about. Sounds more like something you're trying to start.

I agree with you.

I find it odd that someone who is critical of us not staying up in the Premier League would be surprised that most fans will expect top 6 as a minimum.

I would say, after £120m spent, we should be top 6. However, obviously, football isn’t that simple. I’d like to see the incomings and outgoings from June, July before making that judgement. Also, I’d like to hear the noise coming out from the club, ie how McKenna and Ashton and owners are viewing 2025/26

Have you read this forum at all in the last three months.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Jesus christ, I don't think I've ever seen more crying from a poster than from you this afternoon.

We get it, it's not good enough, but getting this worked up over a game as unimportant as today? Get some perspective ffs.

Not important? Few days ago the talk was all about the £3m extra we’d earn.

If you can’t get pissed off or excited about any game, what’s the point?

That £3m stuff was absolute clutching at straws to try and squeeze some importance out the the remaining games.

We've been relegated for ages, been getting poor results from mostly poor performances for ages, every game follows the same pattern.

It's beyond irrelevant at this stage, just going through the motions to get to the summer.

I just don't understand why someone would get so worked up as the op seemed to this afternoon across a number of posts.

It's not as absurd as some are pointing out. I doubt it would happen but McKenna could easily be 10 games away from the sack if 23 have a hugely negative start to the season.

Wow. Just give it a rest. I get you don’t agree with the statement, but Christ on a bike, some (and it looks to me like many) share the opinion that McKenna needs to start well in the first couple of months next season.
I think probably the fact you ‘don’t understand’ says more about YOU than anyone else.

Sounds like you’re doubting yourself already. In no way is it unreasonable for him to have to start very strong. You’ll be agreeing with me before long.

That is some rancid comprehension.

It depends how you understand the phrase "starts like this".

If it means loses at Leicester on the opening day then it is ridiculous.

If it means 2 points from 6 matches then it probably does mean failing to compete for promotion!

Interestingly, only Man Utd and Spurs have worse 6-match form than us.

Yeah, there’s clearly a lack of understanding on show…

Because the performance yesterday was an absolute disgrace maybe?

From this board across the season
- you can’t be angry when a team better than you beats you
- you can’t be angry when you play poorly when already down
- you can’t be angry when going to one of the big boys and show nothing (because you know, MONEY)

So exactly when are we allowed to show frustration and annoyance at yet another weak/poor performance?

You can be angry all you want texters. But claiming we played badly or were outplayed is a view many don't share.

I thought we made many chances, albeit failed to actually test the keeper, like when Leif hit the post first half. Frustrating to create to much and finish so poorly but it was one of those days.

Noticeable how Ashton hasn’t been as vocal this season compared to when everything was going so well in L1 and Championship. Recruitment was poor, the Muric transfer and how we went about it was unbelievable, and although injuries have played a part we’ve looked doomed for months now.

Ashton was hardly screaming and shouting last season?

What do you want him to do, walk out to the centre circle after every home game and apologise ?

It's unfathomable to me that people think he should be sacked.

For me personally, I said at the start of the season I would give him a completely free ride and take whatever happens on the chin this season. The job he did was incredible to get us here and it was quite obviously going to be a miracle to compete and stay up.

After the money spent in the summer, I expected us to be more competitive and it hasn't been enjoyable but now I expect McKenna to do a good job next season and I expect us to live up to the tag of being favourites for promotion.

He’s made mistakes unarguably- but McKenna out is definitely a case of BCWYWF.

Not many exciting young coaches out there with brilliant records.

History repeated? Burley was given a fair ride in that second season, but I'd forgotten just how bad our start to Division 1 was the year we went down!

"George Burley has been sacked as manager of First Division Ipswich following the club's poor start to the season.

Ipswich are currently 19th in the table after winning just three of their first 10 games, compounding the disappointment of last season's relegation from the Premiership.

David Sheepshanks, Ipswich's chairman, this morning announced: "It is with great sadness that the board of directors have taken the difficult decision to relieve George Burley from his position as manager."

Burley's sacking comes less than 18 months since he led Town to a fifth-placed finish in the Premiership and qualification for Europe. But after that remarkable season Ipswich crashed to relegation with a dismal tally of just nine wins from 38 games. Nine defeats in their last 13 games proved their undoing."

I'd have taken 9 wins this season!
